    I’m really confused here.

I use my blog as a wordpress.org type blog; my files are all hosted on my web server, but my login only works through wordpress.com.

When I try to login to my dashboard I get an error message reading:

Cannot open file (/hermes/bosweb/web170/b1706/ipg.robotsonhorsebackcom/wordpress/wp-content/backup/.htaccess)Cannot write to file (/hermes/bosweb/web170/b1706/ipg.robotsonhorsebackcom/wordpress/wp-content/backup/.htaccess)

I haven’t changed anything major (or minor) other than updating to the latest version of wordpress.

    Any thoughts?

You did not specify a blog address or reason for posting when you created this topic.

This support forum is for blogs hosted at WordPress.com. If your question is about a self-hosted WordPress blog then you’ll find help at the WordPress.org forums.

If you don’t understand the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, you may find this information helpful.

If you forgot to include a link to your blog, you can reply and include it below. It’ll help people to answer your question.

    This is an automated message.

Your self-hosted blog is totally, and completely, NOT connected to wordpress.COM. It stands as a separate installation all by itself.

You log into your self-hosted blog here: http://www.wordpress.robotsonhorseback.com/wp-login.php .

This works a bit better: http://www.robotsonhorseback.com/wordpress/wp-login.php

The files are installed in a sub directory, but things are set to the root (sorry can’t remember the term but that was the way my site was before I migrated to here) they can also get to this page from their opening page and down on the sidebar.

Thanks so much for the quick replies!

    I still can’t login though.

    Same error message:

Cannot open file (/hermes/bosweb/web170/b1706/ipg.robotsonhorsebackcom/wordpress/wp-content/backup/.htaccess)Cannot write to file (/hermes/bosweb/web170/b1706/ipg.robotsonhorsebackcom/wordpress/wp-content/backup/.htaccess)

Your self-hosted blog is totally, and completely, NOT connected to wordpress.COM. It stands as a separate installation all by itself. I’m afraid you will have to post to the correct support forum for help and that’s here http://wordpress.ORG/dupport/

You need to inquire over at http://wordpress.ORG/support/ as that is where self-hosted wordpress installs are supported. These forums are for those hosted here at wordpress.COM.

It sounds like there was an issue with the upgrade, but the .ORG people are the ones that would know for sure.

Welcome TT, and thanks auxclass although if things are working right, the non-subdirectory URL should work too.

Something happened on the update and they need to get that addressed over at .ORG.

Thanks! The most puzzling part is the fact that I can’t login at .ORG but can here..

@robotsonhorsebackcom, wordpress.COM IS NOT connected to your self-hosted blog. Your self-hosted blog is a stand-alone installation.

If you are talking about the .ORG forums, they again are NOT connected with the .COM forums. You will have to get a separate username and login at .ORG.

Have you created a username account at wordpress.ORG so you can post to the forums there? If not you can do that here > http://wordpress.ORG/support/
