I can not access WordPress related websites in Chrome
-
Hello. For a long time, I can not access WordPress.com and WordPress.org websites. It happens only in Chrome. I can enter in Safari.
I tried in incognito and guest mode and deactivated all extensions. Cleared all browsing data (cookies and others). Removed chrome from Mac completely and reinstalled. But still not working.
I am using macOS Sonoma 14.5

Thanks for letting us know. There seems to be a global issue at the moment with some browsers and OS. For some folks it’s Chrome for most it’s Firefox.
-
Hello again, this issue looks to be resolved. Can you please check again and let us know if you’re still encountering an issue.

Could you please share a screenshot of what you see when you try to access WordPress.com and WordPress.org on Chrome?
The page at the following link has some helpful tips for taking screenshots: http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/

Hello. Screenshot wouldn’t be explanatory enough. Because there is no error. Pages just not loading. So I recorded a video.

Hi @bilalmalkoc! Thanks for the video recording. That’s helpful.
I see you’re attempting to access wordpress.org. This time, could you try wordpress.com and check if there are any errors in the browser console? Here’s how you can do that: https://wordpress.com/support/browser-issues/advanced-browser-troubleshooting/#java-script-errors-in-google-chrome
Once you have the results, please share a screenshot.

Hello. There is no error on the console. And I tried on wordpress.com. I have same issues.

Hello @bilalmalkoc
Thanks for sharing another recording. It seems like the issue might be specific to Chrome on your Mac rather than a general issue with the internet connection or the websites themselves.
Here are some additional troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue with accessing WordPress.com and WordPress.org on Chrome:
Check DNS Settings:
- Sometimes DNS settings can cause issues. Try changing the DNS settings to Google’s public DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4). Here is a guide on how to change DNS settings on macOS.
Disable Hardware Acceleration:
- In Chrome, go to Settings > Advanced > System and turn off “Use hardware acceleration when available”. Restart Chrome and check if the issue persists. Here is a guide on how to disable hardware acceleration in Chrome.
Reset Chrome Settings:
- Reset Chrome to its default settings. This can be done by going to Settings > Advanced > Reset and clean up > Restore settings to their original defaults. Here is a guide on how to reset Chrome settings.
Check for Malware:
- Although less likely on a Mac, it’s worth running a malware scan to rule out any malicious software affecting Chrome’s performance. Here is a guide on how to scan for malware on a Mac.
Review Network Conditions:
- Use Chrome’s developer tools to inspect network activity and see if there are any specific requests that are causing the slowdown. This can be done by pressing
Cmd + Option + I, navigating to the Network tab, and then loading the website. Here is a guide on how to use Chrome’s developer tools.
Create a New Chrome Profile:
- There could be an issue with the user profile. Try creating a new user profile in Chrome and see if the issue persists. Here is a guide on how to create a new profile in Chrome.
Check System Resources:
- Verify that there are no other applications or processes consuming a large amount of system resources which might be impacting Chrome’s performance. You can use the Activity Monitor on macOS for this. Here is a guide on how to use Activity Monitor.
Use a Different Network:
- Sometimes network-specific issues can affect browser performance. Try accessing the websites on a different Wi-Fi network to see if the problem persists.
System Integrity Check:
- Run a system integrity check on macOS to ensure there are no underlying system issues affecting the browser. This can be done using the built-in Disk Utility to verify and repair disk permissions. Here is a guide on how to use Disk Utility on a Mac.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it might be beneficial to contact Chrome support.
