I canceled my domain but it is still 'unavailable'

  I registered ‘infactorium.com’ long ago through wordpress. Now I want to leave wordpress, and so I canceled the domain. I want to reregister my domain elsewhere, but wordpress still calls it ‘unavailable’, and so do other registration sites. When will infactorium.com be released so that I can register it?

  Hi there,

  Cancelled domains are not released immediately, but goes through a process similar to expired domains before they become available again. Currently the domain is in a holding period of a few days where we can still get it back.

  I strongly recommend you do this, and then we can help you point or transfer the domain to a different service if you don’t want to use it on WordPress.com.

  After a few days the domain will go into redemption at our registrar. At this point it will cost an extra $80 to get it back, and our registrar can try to sell it on private auction – should the domain be sold it will belong to someone else from that moment and won’t be released.

  If it’s not sold, it will be released in a few weeks, but even then it could be registered by a domain drop catch service the moment it becomes available, in which case you’ll lose it.

  Domains should only ever be cancelled if you no longer want to use it. If you still want to use this domain, I recommend you let us recover it for you, and then you can transfer it where you want. Please let me know if I should do that, or if you prefer to wait for its release.

  OK. I paid for a premium site again to remap the domain. Is that all I have to do?

  And how do I turn off auto-renew without canceling everything again? There’s no option to just turn off auto-renew.
