I cancelled my domain name (stupidly) – Can I get it back??
-
Hi there,
So I purchased a domain name http://www.kingscreations.co.uk – I was trying to transfer to a different host and thought I had to delete my domain name and restart on a different host site to do it (yes I know, I’m an idiot!) Not realising I could just transfer across – Is there any way I can get this back?? Thanks in advance!

Oh no! I’m sorry to hear that! Did you originally register the domain through WordPress.com or through a different registrar?
Also what steps did you take in the process of canceling it? Depending on the steps you took, you may have just opted out of renewing it, rather than relinquishing ownership.
If you did register it with WordPress.com, try navigating to the link below and make sure you don’t see it in the list of domains on your account.
https://wordpress.com/domains/manage/
If you don’t see it there, let me know and we can get a staff member involved that can take a look at your account.

Hi,
Thank you for replying so quickly and making me feel comfortable with this, as I’m fairly embarrassed, as this could have been very easily avoided if I just paid attention to what I was doing!
So I clicked the link you posted and it seems I only have the free domain name “kingscreationscouk.wordpress.com”
If I remember right I opted out of the whole thing – I received a confirmation email shortly after stating that I may not be able to recover my domain. That’s when I realised my idiotic mistake!
I also received a refund from you guys!So yeah it’s not longer there!
Any help would be massively appreciated! Thank you!

Hi there,
I have recovered the domain kingscreations.co.uk and restored it to active status on your account.
Because you have been refunded already, you will need to pay again for registration, so with this in mind I have sent an invoice to you via email. Please make payment at the link inside of that email to finalize the recovery of your domain.
Please be aware that when a domain is cancelled (and then recovered) it is no longer possible to transfer the domain for a period of 60 days. This “60 day lock” is a requirement set by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and is observed by all ICANN-accredited registrars.
See: https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/text-2012-02-25-en
Because this is a requirement that we must adhere to by law, it is not within our control to lift this 60 day lock for any reason.
However, you are not bound to use your domain here on WordPress.com; it is possible to have it “point” to your self-hosted site instead. Would you like help setting that up? That will allow you to get set up and move forward with your host, and then you can finalize the domain transfer after 60 days are up.

Thanks again!Kindest Regards

@kingscreations91 I can confirm payment has been made. Who is your new host or provider? Even though you can’t transfer your domain yet (you can after 60 days) you can still use it as the address of your site over there.
To do that all we need is the domain name server (NS) addresses that your new provider recommends. We can add those to the domain settings on this end, and that will allow you to use kingscreations.co.uk as the address of your new site over there.
Thanks for the additional info!

I think you guys are my host? 🤔 – I don’t remember signing up to any other sites! Is there a way I can check this? Like I said was fairly useless while setting this up, sorry!

I believe what staff-totoro is referring to is what you said in your initial post about trying to transfer your domain. It sounded as through you were trying to transfer your domain away from WordPress.com. If that is no longer the case, then no further action is needed.
However, if you do still want to switch hosts you’ll have to wait the 60 days to actually transfer your domain over, but you could setup a forward to have the site point to the new host in the meantime as staff-totoro mentioned.

If the site that loads at kingscreations.co.uk is the one you’re working on, then we’re your host. If it isn’t, then you probably have purchased hosting elsewhere.
