I cancelled my paid domain and would like to know how long it takes before WordPress releases it

    1. I cancelled my paid domain with WordPress because I wanted to purchase it from my new host since it is expiring soon
    2. WordPress has not released it, and I need it urgently so I would like to know how I can speed up the process or at least estimate how long it would take
    3. I posted this question a couple days back and realised I could not delete or edit my post. Is it just me or is it a little unfair? Especially since WordPress very helpfully added the URL of some other blog I own below the post.
    4. The ‘support’ provided by WordPress is absolutely appalling. How genius of you guys to remove all possible means of contact other than this support forum, and I can’t even access the e-mail option because I’ve already cancelled my domain.
    5. And yes I’m back here cause I’m desperate. Since this can’t be edited or deleted, this post is probably going to pop up every time someone googles my brand name. Fantastic.
    6. Still, thank you to anyone who can provide some help!

    What is the domain URL?

    If you do not post a domain URL, which is of course, required to get accurate help the software provides the URL associated with the username account you are logged in under.

    Cancelling domains
    It is important to know that cancelled domains are not released by the registrar immediately. Also note that here’s no guarantee you’ll be able to use a domain again as it may be sold to someone else. Therefore you should cancel a domain, if and only if, you are sure you do not wish to use it again.

    Thanks for your reply.
    The reason I am not posting my URL is because I do not wish for this post to pop up when people do a google of my brand. In other words I’m hoping to have support that is private. I don’t mind having it public but the thought of this post being unable to be deleted is not ideal.
    I got the domain from wordpress but do not have the blog here, and I’d already deleted the domain so I really don’t have a choice of not posting the URL.
    Anyway I hope a staff comes to look at this soon, thanks for your help!

    When you cancel a domain, it is not released anytime soon. We send it back to the registrar, and it goes through redemption / auction process that takes quite a while. I’m going to see if I can get this un-cancelled for you, and if we can get it back, you can then point it to a new host or work on getting it transferred.

    Just note transfers can take a while, and they won’t work if the domain is locked. Canceling and uncanceling may cause a temporary lock. If that is the case, please just be sure to renew your domain here if you need to — don’t let it expire. Any remaining “time” on the registration will go with you to the new registrar.
