Hi there, canceled domains aren’t released immediately, and depending on the domain, it can take anything from a few days to more than a year before it will be available to buy again.
In this specific case, we have a few options for you to regain control over the domain:
Wait: You can wait about five days from registration for the domain to be released. So long as no one else buys it before you do, you should be able to purchase it again with another provider.
Repurchase the Domain: We can send an invoice and restore the domain. You’ll be able to point it to a new host as soon as it’s restored, then transfer the registration after 60 days.
Repurchase a Plan: To host your site here instead, please buy a plan, skip the domain option, and update us here.

Thank you for your response!
I want to repurchase our domain, then,
Will you send me the invoice, or is there something I need to do in my WordPress account?

Hi there,
Your domain and Premium Plan subscriptions were not expired yet, so I just reactivated them for you. The Premium Plan does expire on 5/23, so if you want to keep that subscription, I’d definitely recommend renewing it soon. It is a legacy plan that is no longer available. The domain is paid for thru 8/26.
Let us know if you have any questions.
Thanks!

I have another question related to the original topic.
We have created a new website with another company, so we don’t need the website hosting anymore form WordPress. We just need the domain name.
If we don’t renew the hosting with WordPress…
1) Will that effect our domain?
2) Will it effect the timing in the updating of the ICANN (hope I said that right) registry?
3) Will we still be able to log in to WordPress and make changes to our domain if necessary? Thanks!

1) Will that effect our domain?
The domain itself isn’t tied to your website.
2) Will it effect the timing in the updating of the ICANN (hope I said that right) registry?
Can you clarify what you’re updating? Once we have that information, we’ll be better able to advise.
3) Will we still be able to log in to WordPress and make changes to our domain if necessary?
Yes, the domain would still be under your account to manage.

Thanks for your quick response!
I think I was double checking on the registration because of the above previuous answer:
Repurchase the Domain: We can send an invoice and restore the domain. You’ll be able to point it to a new host as soon as it’s restored, then transfer the registration after 60 days.
Since WordPress was able to re-activate our account instead of us repurchasing it, was the registration effected in the registry?

Since the domain was not yet expired, there was no need to repurchase the domain. As staff-blorbo mentioned, after a certain grace period post-cancellation, we would’ve had to deal with the registry to restore the domain and at that time you would’ve had to repurchase. Thankfully, we were still in the window to restore the domain before it was canceled at the registry.
