I cannot delete questionable blogs that I have followed

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello, in the section where I can follow and unfollow blogs, I am missing that little X on the right corner that would enable me to delete a blog. http://wordpress.com/#!/read/edit/ This is the page that I went to delete a blog I followed.

Also, some blogs are doing some kind of weird thing with their URL. They follow me on a regular wordpress site. Like http://www.myblog.wordpress.com and they post fuzzy birds which I like. So I follow them back. Then I see in my feed annoying politics or sales pitches instead of fuzzy birds. So I wish to delete that blog. When I went to that page that allows me to delete blogs my “x” was missing. So I manually clicked on the blog itself to view all of the content of the blog and decide whether or not to delete it. But once I click on the blog link http://www.myblog.wordpress.com which is listed in my following list, it redirects into an entirely different site with a URL that is not a subdomain of wordpress. They have some kind of script that blocks the upper part of wordpress bar which allows for people to follow, unfollow or like. So I cannot manually unfollow a few blogs because their wordpress domain redirects to non-wordpress domain and then they block that upper bar from wordpress which allows people to unfollow them.

If I am able to delete from my main page again http://wordpress.com/#!/read/edit/ then this will not matter. But as of now I cannot delete anything from that main page and a few bloggers remain on my list that I wish to delete. I hope that this message makes sense. It is confusing and I hope I explained it well enough.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Provided you are logged in under the exact same username account you were logged into when you followed the blogs you will be able to un-follow them. http://en.support.wordpress.com/following/#unfollow-a-blog

That’s very odd so I tagged this thread for a Staff followup. Please post the actual URLs for the blogs you want to un-follow so Staff have the details they need to help you. Also subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

Maybe I should email a screen shot? Can I upload a screen shot to this help forum question? I think there is a glitch on that page because to the far right where it says “Blogs I follow” then underneath it says “Freshly Pressed” and ect and ect…all of those words are on top of each other and jumbled up. They are suppose to be aligned straight and go down the right in the column so I can click on each link individually. But I cannot because they are all jumbled on top of each other. It looks like crazy alphabet soup.

That is the same page where I should be able edit the blogs I follow. In the center of the screen there is suppose to be the blog’s name on a line and if I hover my mouse over the line then on the right should be an “x” that appears. If I click on that “x” then I can delete the blog. The “x” does not appear next to the blog’s name. I only have the word “Edit” next to the blog name.

My page looks funky. I think it got glitched. Thank U for looking into this for me.

  • Hi there, you can certainly provide a screenshot to help in troubleshooting. Here’s a guide on how to make a screenshot, if you’re not sure: http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/ You can upload the screenshot (JPEG, GIF, PNG or PDF only, please) in your Media Library so I can see it. Thanks.

To rule out an IE9-specific issue, does this issue happen in a different browser, such as Firefox or Chrome?

Could you please try clearing your cache/temporary Internet files in Internet Explorer and see if that helps?

    http://www.wikihow.com/Clear-Your-Browser%27s-Cache#Internet_Explorer_9

So I cannot manually unfollow a few blogs because their wordpress domain redirects to non-wordpress domain and then they block that upper bar from wordpress which allows people to unfollow them.

Could you please provide links to the blogs you’d like to unfollow so I can take a direct look?

Oh gee Kathryn! It was an Internet Explorer problem. I cleared the cookies and still had problems with Internet Explorer. But I went into Fire Fox and all of those little “x” were there. So I can delete the questionable blogs by myself.

There are alot of weird things in my wordpress account when I log in under Internet Explorer. Even when I try to write a blog, it automatically goes into the code or text mode instead of the visual. But Internet Explorer browser is the only one I really know. Under Firefox everything looks normal but I know nothing about it. How do I clear cookies in Firefox? I don’t want have Firefox save passwords or sights I visited. Is WordPress no longer compatible with Internet Explorer?

    Thank U

  • You can learn all about Firefox in their support pages:

    http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/products/firefox

You might want to start with the Learn the Basics section:

    http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/products/firefox/get-started

    To clear cookies:
    http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/delete-cookies-remove-info-websites-stored

    Password management:
    http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/password-manager-remember-delete-change-passwords?esab=a&s=save+passwords&r=0&as=s

Is WordPress no longer compatible with Internet Explorer?

Many folks use WordPress with Internet Explorer. It sounds like there may be something specific to your installation that is causing issues for you. If you’d like me to troubleshoot them further with you, just let me know. You may also want to try upgrading to the latest version, IE10.

Otherwise, Firefox is a very fine browser. :-)

  • I have one more suggestion for you. It looks like IE9 has some trouble rendering certain elements of our new dashboard, which launched on Monday.

Activating “Compatibility View” in IE9 may fix the issues. Here’s how to do that:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view#ie=ie-9

Let me know how it goes!

Thank U Kathryn. U are right. My IE started acting up on Monday and the icons on the right of the page in my blog admin section looked funny. Thank U for your help Kathryn and Timethief.
