I cannot find out which version of worpress I am using or how to update

    Hi
I have searched everywhere and tried all suggestions I have found to see what version of wordpress I have and also how to update. Nowhere can I find them not at bottom of home page or in the admin section. Also I don’t appear to have an update button, it could be that I am using a really old version or something because I have not touched this website in years and am only now trying to get it working
Any ideas on how to discover this? My site is not live yet I am still getting the site prepped.

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @buffyslayer1. If your site is hosted here at WordPress.com, you don’t need to worry about updating the Software. WordPress.com takes care of keeping it up to date.
If your site is hosted elsewhere, you can find the current version of WordPress software, andif there’s a new version available in Dashboard>Updates.

  • Hi there!

As @kleyhalisson mentioned, you don’t need to worry about software updates on WordPress.com; we do that for you on the backend. Here you can find what version your site is using at the moment:

    https://wordpress.com/support/php-environment/.

I think you might be following some tutorials for WordPress.org sites so, to clear up any further confusion, there is WordPress.com and WordPress.org, and they are two different entities.

We, WordPress.com, are a cloud-based platform where we manage WordPress sites, whereas WordPress.org is stand-alone software that you can download and self-host with any other hosting.

You can find more details about WordPress.com and WordPress.org on this support page:

    https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/.

    I hope that helps :)
