Hello there,
All WordPress blogs by default have comments open on all Pages and Posts. You can enable and disable comments on free hosted WordPress.com blogs on this page > Settings > Discussion
Discussion settings is where you set up defaults for comments.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/You can override the default settings and enable or disable future comments on any individual post or page.

You can reveal it by clicking on Screen Options http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ on the top right corner of your Admin page, and checking the box that says Discussion so the module is included. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules

Actually with the “new and improved” post editor… I just published a post, and I noticed (after waiting for it be published…) that comments were NOT enabled.
If this isn’t corrected soon – I will re-enter this as its own subject.

I am using Firefox 31 on Windows 7 and I just posted a test comment that you can delete.

Yes – you were able to post a comment, because BEFORE I entered a post here I went into the “advanced settings” on the individual blog post and specified “allow comments”
This does NOT change the fact the “new and improved” posting feature does not look at my settings default.

Various security/privacy add-ons, though they do not impact the “classic post editor” I can provide a list if necessary…(c) Exactly what you experience including what any error reports you receive state.
I publish a post composed using the “new and improved” post editor. Even though I have a default of “allow comments” the post was published without the “leave a comment” link

Thanks for the added information. I’ll tag this thread for a Staff follow-up. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

Hi @zendodeb,
When I try to create a new test post on your blog using the new editor, comments are currently enabled by default just as they should per your Discussion Settings. When you try to post from the new editor, is “Allow Comments” checked under “Advanced Options” prior to publishing?
-
The following was done.
1. Created a new post (test)
2. Opened new post in the “new and improved” editor.
3. Opened “advanced settings.”
4. “allow comments” NOT checked. I did not check it. (since that is SUPPOSED to be the default.)
4. Publish (which defaults somehow to “schedule” which means from the “new and improved” editor, there is no way to view the post I just published. So back to the dashboard, and on to the already published post.
5. Verify that there is no “leave comment” link available. (you can see the post here. http://wheelgun.wordpress.com/2014/09/11/testing-1-2-3-testing-is-this-thing-on/ )I have screen shots of all of these I can email them or upload them (I haven’t looked for instructions.) Let me know where you want to go from here.
Having spent the bulk of my career in application development I will NEVER understand the urge to change a perfectly good, and working user interface in favor of something that is not as good (defaults to “visual” even though I always want to be able to enter html, including html entities – which you finally DO allow – and I would love to be able to pass arguments to the YouTube interface, but you parse your own youtube variables, and you only support &rel=0)
So was the old interface perfect? no
Windows 7 Service pack 1, plus ‘important’ updates
still on Firefox 31. If you need the list of security add-ons, I can provide… basically I kill anything that tries to track me.

OK when looking at my Twitter feed, I find the following:
Posts published from the Classic editor, publish Post Title, and wp.me link to the post.
Posts published from the “New and Improved” editor, only publish the link. At least the link works, but it should publish the post title as well.
I haven’t checked to see if this is a Twitter issue or generally an RSS issue. I hope I don’t have to.
-
And I have screen shot to document that as well…. you can see it easily here https://twitter.com/ZendoDeb though that will get more confused as time goes by.
-
Here is another puzzle. If you look at my Twitter Feed, it appears that the font used by WP changed (became larger) when I first tried to use the New editor to create that first post – which didn’t allow comments.
Going back to the Classic version did not change the font size.
I suppose this is an option listed under “publicize” or something, but I don’t remember ever explicitly choosing a font for Twitter.
On the bright side, it appears that the RSS feed is OK.

Here is another issue. On the topic of the “new and improved” editor.
When I click the edit link, for a post on my blogs main page, I am directed to the new editor. When I click on the drop-down labeled “tags and categories” none of my existing categories are listed.
I published a post under “Uncategorized” by mistake. When I clicked the edit link, it defaults to the New editor. It does not provide a list of my categories in the drop-down “menu”. When I click “switch back to the classic editor” it gives me a message “saving draft” even though the post was already published, and when I check it did NOT save a DRAFT (thankfully).
Once I updated the post using the list of categories (all categories and most-frequently-used are a VERY USEFUL distinction, which does not seem to be in the plans for the new user interface). Anyway, I circled back, and once a category is specified for the post, that category does show up in the drop-down menu. But by itself, that is not very interesting. The menu of categories with the boxes checked or unchecked depending on what was previously selected is a GREAT interface.
Stop me when you want to list this as its own topic.
