I cannot get my images to move where I want them to move.

I have tried using advice from past forum posts but the suggestions do not work.

I want to freely move my images from one space to another in the block editor and I cannot. I have tried:

Media and text blocks – picture looked ok, but words were only 3 words per line and made the page extremely long.

Holding the image and moving it – nothing happened.

Visual editor – not an option I can select.

The images just stay aligned on the side but not close enough to the text for optimal visual appeal.

    Hi there!

Due to how websites are structured, there is some limit to how freely an image can be moved. Using the Image block, you can align it with regard to other blocks (like paragraphs) on a post, and you can also use columns/layout grid blocks to further edit where you insert the image.

We’d love to understand how exactly you want to place an image. Could you perhaps share a screenshot (and a link to the page/post you’re working on) so that we know what you’re going for? You can annotate the screenshot or maybe even draw it on a piece of paper, take a photo, and upload it to your site’s media library. We can take a look once it’s uploaded.

    Thanks!

The top picture is somewhat what I would like it to look like. I want the image to be closer to the words, but it won’t let me move it. This is also the view from the desktop preview, which it is ok but it isn’t great or professional looking.

The bottom two screenshots are what the image did the view when it is in the mobil version. This looks completely unprofessional to my customers, all of whom are online. I am getting very frustrated and don’t know how to fix this.

  • When I examine you page in the list view, I can see that the text you have added to your layout is contained within 3 separate Columns Blocks. You can see what I mean by watching the video at this link: Video showing columns blocks

I’m not sure how you arrived at that arrangement but it seems to me that this is the primary cause of your issue. Those columns block due to the way the work will prevent an image from being added to the layout beside them.

Instead I recommend moving your text and images out of the current columns blocks you have and instead use a single columns block, set to two equal columns. Then you can add all your text into the column on the left, and the image to the column on the right. You can see how that is done in the video I’ve included here.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Thank you. Whenever I hit return it makes a new block for the text. So when I am trying to get a new paragraph it pushes it to the next block. I just figured out in this message that if you hold the shift with the enter it will just make a new paragraph, which is not what my muscle memory is used to! I watched several videos before starting my website and I never heard this mentioned.

    Thank you for your help!
