I cannot publish a poll

I would like to create a poll. The instructions state, “If you are using polls for the first time on WordPress.com you will be prompted to create or import an account. Choose either option and follow the instructions presented to you.”
However, the first time I tried to create a poll, I did not get that prompt. I created the poll anyway, but I do not get a “Publish” button or any other apparent way to publish the poll. I deleted the poll that I had created to see if I would then get the prompt to create a account, but I still did not get that prompt.
I see references to pasting HTML code into a post. I tried that and got a “send to editor” option. But that just produced a post with gibberish HTML code, not a poll.
I will appreciate advice as to how to publish a poll.

I’m sorry but I have no help to offer beyond what’s in the support documentation here.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/polls/If following those instructions doesn’t produce a poll and you cannot locate a thread in the forum searchbox that”s helpful, then all I can suggest is that you report your problem to Staff http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

Also note that posting under two different usernames just so you can curse at Volunteers answering questions for free on a peer support forum pretty much guarantees that you and Staff will be going steady from here on. So when you extract your head from your anal canal think about that.
