I cannot reduce the height of my cover block
-
Hey all, Still fairly new to this…
I cannot find a way to reduce the height of my cover block. I reduced the size of the image, but WP just displays it at the same height on the page, with the sides cut off.
When I use the block’s handle, it moves up but has no effect on the page!
Can you help please? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello @timwatson1000!
I understand that you are facing some frustration with figuring out how to reduce the height of your cover block.
It seems that the image size is not the issue.
Instead, it appears that the problem is that you have something inside the cover block that is forcing it to be taller than you want. In your case, there is a group block inside the cover block that is set to a min-height of 100vh, which forces that group block to be the height of the browser window.
To resolve this issue:
- Go to the block editor for this page or template
- Select the group block that is inside the cover block
- Look in the style settings for the setting where you can remove the min-height setting for that group block
Once that group block is no longer forcing the height, you should be able to drag the cover block to the size that you want. Then the only things that may force the group block to be larger than the min-height that you set would be the heading and whatever other content you place inside that cover block.
I hope this helps you resolve this issue!

Thanks so much Brent. You were absolutely correct, except that is was a Stack block, rather than a Group block that had the 100vh minimum height applied. Once I changed that, I was able to change the height of the Cover.
Thanks again!

I’m glad you got it sorted – and thanks for the clarification about it being a Stack block. That distinction might be helpful for others who may find this forum topic when they run into the same issue.
