I cannot sign in anymore – my log in button is gone

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,
I can no longer get into my site – the sign in/log in button/link is gone. I was in my site a few weeks ago – no problem. Tonite I cannot even get the option to log in. I’m kind of freaking out because this is my site in my daughter’s memory and I am due to do my next blog post on childhood cancer research.
    Please help….
    Thanks so much!

    Hi Marcia!

Can you let me know how you previously got to the login button for your site? I’m trying to figure out which specific button you were previously using.

You can access your site’s WP Admin directly from the following link:

    https://anjulijacobs.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

Additionally, you can Log In to WordPress.com using the link in the upper right-hand of our homepage. This will lead you here:

    https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php

Let me know if that helps or if you’re still not seeing the button you were using before.

    Hello,
Thanks so much for getting back to me so fast. You are very kind. I was so worried it was hard to sleep last night.
There used to be a link (probably a better word to use than “button”) on the far right-side of my homepage – in the sidebar. It just said “log in.”
I still don’t see it, but I can get in now from the “My Site” drop down menu.
I am not sure what happened. I guess if I can get in this way I don’t need the link in the sidebar anymore.
    Thank you,
    Marcia

    Hi Marcia.

Is the Log In button in the upper right of the following screenshot what you’re referring to?

If so, that will only appear while your logged out of WordPress.com. While you’re logged in, you’ll always be able to access your site directly from within the Dashboard. :) We’re also currently making some changes to the WordPress.com Dashboard and so you might notice some things shifting about, however, we wouldn’t stop you from being able to access your site.

I’ll be happy to help if you have any extra questions around that.

    Hi,
No – that’s not it. It was just a link in the right sidebar. I used to have to sign in all the time, but maybe now it is keeping me logged in?? That seems like that would explain what happened.
    I can’t thank you enough.
Will WordPress send a notice or “how-to” guide about the new changes coming? That would be helpful.
    Thanks!!

    Hi Marcia,

Did you previously have the “Meta” widget in your right sidebar?

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/meta-widget/

That widget is not currently active on your, but if it was, that would’ve provided a log in / log out link in your site’s sidebar.

When you login, one option is to mark this checkbox to remain logged in even after closing the browser window:

It sounds like you had that checked the last time you logged in.

    Hi Alex,
Yes – that’s exactly how it looked! Wow!! Now I know what happened – well sort of because I don’t think I turned it off, not intentionally anyway. lol…
Thank you sooooooooooooo much!! I might put it back now. We’ll see.
    :-)
