I cannot upload the newest version of the Genesis plugin.

Along the top of my wordpress main screen it says this ‘requires WordPress 4.7.2 and Genesis 2.4.2, or greater. Please install and activate the latest version of Genesis to use this plugin.’ So I have downloaded the newest version but wordpress will not let me upload the zip file. Because of this, some of my other plugins are not running as they should be. Thank you for your time.

I don’t see the Business Plan upgrade on your account here, which would be required in order to use plugins? Are you talking about a self-hosted site instead of one hosted here at WordPress.com?
It sounds like perhaps your WordPress version needs to be updated to the latest version before you can update the plugin.
For self-hosted WordPress sites such as yours, I would suggest asking for help from the plugin author directly or ask in the volunteer-based WordPress.org forums.
WordPress.com and WordPress.org are separate, so if you do not already have an account at WordPress.org, you will need to register.

I understand what you are saying but when I go to my pluigin area of wordpress, there is no action to update and it doesn’t come up on my list of plugins that need to be updated. Even though at the top of my wordpress, it says that it needs to be updated.

I would suggest posting to the plugin author(s) forums at WordPress.org. We cannot help you on that here at WordPress.com. They would be the best source.
Go to the plugins page(s) at WordPress.org and you will find View Forum links on those pages where you can post.
If the plugin does not have a WordPress.org plugin support page, then contact the plugin author directly off of their website.
