I can't access my email after loading DNS MX and CNAME codes.

I have a domain, lawrencemcglown.com, that is hosted by Network Solutions. I have this domain pointing to the becomeauthentic.wordpress.com. I recently added email service, and subsequently updated the DNS codes they provided on the wordpress site. However, I am still unable to access my email account, and Network Solutions is telling me the issue resides with WordPress. I am a novice in this space, and would sincerely appreciate guidance on how to correct the problem and use my email service.

    Please advise.

I checked the MX record setup on your Edit DNS page inside your WordPress.com dashboard and I found the following:

    MX 10 inbound.lawrencemcglown.com.netsolmail.net.

That server name doesn’t look quite right, so let’s check the details on that first. Can you confirm that the mail server name is supposed to be inbound.lawrencemcglown.com.netsolmail.net or is it supposed to be something like inbound.netsolmail.net instead?

Also, I see the following CNAME records:

    CNAME mail.lawrencemcglown.com mail.lawrencemcglown.com.netsolmail.net.
    CNAME smtp.lawrencemcglown.com smtp.lawrencemcglown.com.netsolmail.net.

But I think they should be setup like this:

    CNAME mail mail.netsolmail.net.
    CNAME smtp smtp.netsolmail.net.

I’ve updated all of the records to what I think they should be, but can you also please confirm that the server names are correct (e.g. that inbound.netsolmail.net should be used instead of inbound.lawrencemcglown.com.netsolmail.net) ?

Once those are in place with the right server names, you should be good to go!

I am speaking with Network Solutions and they are saying that the codes I had were correct.

  • Are they absolutely sure that mail.lawrencemcglown.com.netsolmail.net is correct? It just doesn’t seem like it should be valid.

However, we can’t provider support for all email configurations, so you may need to try Google Apps for Domains instead: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/google-apps-email/

I’m sorry, it’s not possible to make this thread private. However, I have just sent you an email so that we can continue to help resolve this problem for you outside of the public forums.
