I can’t apply a template to a page

    I have multiple templates, but I can’t apply any to a page.

    Here’s a picture of my templates.

    I’m trying to apply the Blog Home template to my homepage, but the “change template” option is grayed out in every page I have (not just the homepage). There is no template option when I create a new page, either.

    How do I change a page’s template? Or how do I create a new page specifically with the Blog Home template? Thanks in advance.

    Hello @sparrowsigns,

    I completely understand how it can feel confusing when the “Change template” option is greyed out, especially when you have several templates visible in the list.

    I’ve reviewed your screenshot, and the templates that I see, All Archives, Blog Home, Index, Page 404, Pages, Search Results, Single Posts, and others, are what we call base templates.

    These come by default with your theme and can’t be directly applied to individual pages. Instead, they define how different parts of your site display by default. For your regular pages, the Pages template automatically controls the layout.

    If you’d like your homepage to use the Blog Home template, you can set your homepage to show your latest posts:

    1. Go to Settings → Reading in your dashboard.
    2. Under Your homepage displays, choose Your latest posts.
    3. Then head to Appearance → Editor → Templates.
    4. Open the Blog Home template and make your desired changes there.
