I can't change the text colour in my links
-
I typed the text, highlighted it, changed its color, then added a link while it was still highlighted. Here are some screenshots if they help:

Hi. I tried that – no joy. When i click the link on the toolbar to add the link, it doesnt give the cut down link edit box as shown in your images, but rather the full one.
Can I clarify again that I am on the free, not the premium version.
-
Free or Premium shouldn’t make any difference.

Are you sure you’re using the wp-admin dashboard? What you describe above is found in the “My Sites” dashboard. You probably have Broswer issues using that.
Try working in: https://britishbookwormblog.com/wp-admin -

In fact, the only way I can consistently do this is by cumbersome html manipulation, which makes the wordpress site a lot less straightforward to use
-
thank you, and yes, I’m absolutely sure that i am creating posts from the WP-admin via
https://britishbookwormblog.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php, and then clicking on “write post”.This is how I have always created my posts
-
If you’re clicking on “write” top right you’re being sent back to the “My Sites” dashboard where you have Browser issues. If you click on “Posts” “Add new” on the left you stay in the wp-admin dashboard and I’ll bet your problems will be solved.

at first blush, that certainly seems to have worked! I had no idea that they were different other than being a newer editor!
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I’ll just stay old school
:-)

Cheers, all. I’ve confirmed the newer editor doesn’t work the same way. I don’t know of a way to change links there short of editing each one via HTML.
Still, if you can swing it, WordPress.com premium with CSS support would let you change all of the link colors on the site at once. If you decide to get that, let us know and we’ll help you get the right code in place.

@supernovia, is this the same bug reported by @kokkieh in this thread? https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/my-blog-suddenly-stopped-letting-me-change-link-colors?replies=16#post-2975788

With the very greatest of respect we shouldnt have to move to a premium service just because a wordpress update has broken something which was working just fine before.
Could wordpress developers simply not fix jtit please?
-
Thanks folks. When I said “the new editor” I meant Calypso — I don’t think that’s a bug so much as a feature that isn’t in it. I’ll file a feature request though.
As for wp-admin (which is part of WordPress.org core itself), I was still able to consistently change the link colors with the steps given below, but if they were able to find a bug in another thread and a workaround, and file the bug, that’s helpful; hopefully someone will figure out a fix soon.
As for recommending premium: you don’t have to have it to change link colors. I’d just recommend it because the CSS feature would save you a lot of time in the long run, since you’d just set link colors once for the whole site.

I was wrong: turns out folks were able to edit link colors before in Calypso, and there is a bug request open on that already. I’ve mentioned this thread there.
