I can't create a gallery in a new page

Firstly, I am very new at this and fully accept that I am probably being a bit dim!
I have created a page and want to add a gallery to it. I’ve gone to the Add Media button and selected the photos from my Media Library – they both appear on the page. However, I still don’t get a Gallery option when I go back to Add Media to be able to insert the gallery. I’ve done this on another page this morning and it worked!
I checked out Support and tried to follow the instructions to attach my photos to the page by going to Media/Library/Unattached, but of course my photos don’t appear in Unattached because they are attached. I’ve tried deleting them from the page and then searching in the Unattached folder but no joy.

The easiest way is to simply re-upload the images from your computer via the Add Media button of the page in question.

Once an image is attached to a post, it stays attached unless you delete that post.
To re-use an image in another gallery you must find the image ID and use
[gallery include="NUMBER,NUMBER,NUMBER"]To get an attachment ID for an image, go to your Media Library and hover over the image title you want to exclude. You can find the ID in the URL (the number after attachment_id=).

As often, the Support doc is incomplete. You go to Media > Library, hover over the image and look at the status/progress bar of your browser; or hover over the image, click Edit, look at the address bar of your browser.

OK, that worked (when I clicked Edit and looked at the address bar of my browser, thanks justpi!).
Both images were only attached the page I wanted the gallery in, so I don’t know why I wasn’t give the option of gallery in the first place. It seems pretty easy to add the code for the gallery, but being a technical type, I was hoping to be able to do the basics without resorting to HTML!
