I can't embed Spotify
-
Hi.
I’ve been trying to embed Spotify to my latest post but I can’t do it. Every time I try it says “Sorry, this content could not be embedded”. I’ve checked in different forums and apparently there are a set of problems regarding plug-ins.
Any idea of how can I solve this issue?

Hello!
You can add Spotify using the directions at this link:
https://wordpress.com/support/audio/spotify/This includes instructions that should work for adding Spotify to a post with the Spotify block, and the Classic editor.
-
I’m also having this problem.
Doing the embed with Spotify-block just says “this content could not be embedded”. If I save the post it only shows the link text.
When I do it with the html editor and use Spotify’s embed code, the playlist shows in editor fine but not in actual saved post. Just an empty space.
Also the old posts having Spotify-blocks show the error in editor but the actual posts are fine as long as you don’t edit them.

I’m also having this same exact problem. I’ve tried using the embed from Spotify block, but I keep getting the error message “This content could not be embedded”. I’ve also tried using the HTML editor as well, and even though the code works and successfully displays the playlist in the editor, when I preview the post it completely disappears.
Not sure what to do, any suggestions are helpful at this point. Thanks.

I’ve also been having this exact same issue :-(
If anyone has any pointers that’d be great – thank you in advance!

Hello All!
I came back to this to do some testing on a free site with the TwentyTwenty theme to find out what works and does not work for me.
It seems something about the embed process is not right. It might be software or documentation.
Embedding a Spotify playlist URL with the Spotify block does not work for me. I get the same error messaging previously reported in this thread. It appears this is a previously reported issue, however the ticket was closed.
I will flag the post for staff attention by adding a modlook tag.
Borrowing from an August 2019 support post, I had some success embedding a playlist URI (not URL) from the Spotify (mac) application. The embed does not appear to work in the editor, with behavior and messaging just like embedding the playlist URL. But after I view a live published or updated post, I appear to have an embedded working playlist. (I didn’t listen to all of it.)
I tested with the production mac version (76.0.1) of Firefox.
Staff, feel welcome to look at my private test post:

@booksmartlc, @esaahonen, @paigepevs, can you try to reproduce my test outcome on a WordPress.com site and report back with your findings?WordPress.com because this is a WordPress.com support forum. If you want help with this for a site not hosted on WordPress.com, the WordPress.org support forum is where you would ask for ideas or help.

Hi there,
We’re aware of the issue, and have bug reports open for it both here on WordPress.com, and over on the Core WordPress project on WordPress.org, but I’m afraid it’s not something we can fix, as it appears to be on Spotify’s end.
The problem is that Spotify doesn’t officially support embeds. A few years ago, one of their developers quickly hacked something together via a Twitter conversation with one of the developers who make the WordPress software over on WordPress.org, and that’s worked for the past few years. But it appears Spotify might have changed something on their end that caused this to no longer work.
One of our developers have reached out to Spotify directly, so now we’ll have to wait for Spotify to fix it over there.
You can see the bug report with Spotify here: https://github.com/spotify/web-api/issues/1060

@drizzleblocks
It really seems that I can make an embed by using URI, not URL. It doesn’t work in editor but works in published post.
But the outcome is bit different as the playlist is now very narrow. The ones I created earlier would be the same width as the text column on the blog.

Old embeds are most likely working because that data was cached on your site after we initially fetched it from Spotify.
But new embeds aren’t working because the API endpoint we use to fetch the embedded data isn’t working.

Thank you @kokkieh for your responses. Would it be possible to update the WordPress.com support documentation to align with the circumstances?
I think part of the confusion is that the support documentation provides instructions for using the Spotify block to embed a playlist URL.
Thanks also @esaahonen for your comments about how the appearance of the embedded playlist is different using the URI.
