I can’t export content and media from my WordPress website.

    Hi forum members:

    I am trying to export my website to my hard drive so that I can have it backed up. But when I try to export the content I get an error message which says: ‘There was a problem preparing your export file. Please check your connection and try again, or contact support.’ And when I export the media it exports but the resulting file is zero kilobytes in size (and so it is unusable). My internet is working. I do have an older computer. Not sure if that is affecting things. But I previously was able to do this without a problem. Does anyone know what is going on?

    Update: I do see that emails were sent to me which let me download the file with the contents of my website. So I guess that part is working. But I still don’t know why I am getting the error message and why the direct download function (as opposed to the link sent to me by email) is not working.

    Hi Vincent,

    For what site is this?

    If a site has a lot of content, the direct download option isn’t available. That’s because for big sites the export file is created via an asynchronous process, and the export then also gets split up into multiple files compressed as a .zip folder, to make both the download size smaller, and to have smaller individual files to import to another platform. In those cases we send you a link to download the .zip folder once we’ve finished preparing it.

    I don’t know why you’re seeing an error message, though, because clearly the export didn’t fail.

    Hi Kokkieh,

    Thanks for the response. My website is: firstamendmentcafe.com. I suppose it is kind of big, so maybe that explains the problem with the direct download option. I guess that – as I explained in my update post – since the email with the download link is getting to me and allowing me to download the file (which I did not initially notice) maybe it doesn’t matter so much if there is an error message.
