I can't find my blog on the web

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi all:

Any advice? I’ve got my blog live and my address, but when I Google, Bing or Yahoo my blog does not come up even on their first five pages. I’ve also tried my blog title. Nada!! I’ve got to be able to tell people by word of mouth where to go as well as me sending them a link.

    Thanks,
    Cynthia

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You only have one published post. It takes time for search engines to index your content. See here for verifying blog ownership with the major search engines > http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/
See here for 10 factors that tend to expedite indexing of your content.

    See also WordPress.com search:
The WordPress.com search engine indexes post, pages, and comments content (body text). Unless entered as text in those contents, blog name, post titles, and post/comment author names are not indexed.

Sometimes it takes the search engines a week or more to index the sites very first post

Plus I recommend you check your privacy settings and make sure you don’t have the setting enabled to request no search engine indexing

Their privacy settings are correct – but new site with not much content – I set up a new site recently and it took several weeks for Google to index it – and I had a lot more content than you do.

It has only one published post.

One published Post and I think three Pages –

each time a Post is published you blog calls up the search engines and tells them you have new content – you have only called once. As noted in the links given you by @TT – Post more.

I believe I covered that in my post, no?

It’s my belief that blogs with posts containing unique content published frequently the catches wide spread attention can definitely result in quick indexing by search engines. …

P.S. I tired of gutting my posts and posting the content into forum threads rather than getting traffic to them. In the future I may just to the See: link drop ;)

    Thanks everyone:

Timethief (cool screen name), I will definitely use the support link you sent. I have another question, if you don’t mind. I just ordered Word Press for Dummies (really), so if this sounds dumb just remember I’m a beginner. I’m confused about pages. If I want to change or add content to a certain page, will it chronicle the previous content as in a post and keep it? I’m trying to organize my pages. For example, on my Happenings page will I only be able to have one entry at a time?

Also, I follow an Alternate History blog and his old posts are archived on the side of his home page, are these what everyone is referring to as categories?

I know I need a lot of tutoring, but I’m chipping away at it. Also, would any of you be willing to share the links to your blogs, so I could look at them?

    Thanks,
    Cynthia
