I can't find the 'custom field' section.

  I can’t find the ‘custom field’ section. I looked under screen options and it is not hidden there either. I am using wordpress.com. Is the ‘custom field’ feature only available for paying customers?

  Sorry but you are confusing free hosted WordPress.com blogs and WordPress.ORG installs for self hosting. WordPress.com does not support custom fields. To use custom fields, you’ll need to use a self-hosted WordPress.org blog. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
