I cant find the right theme…

    Hi there, I recently purchased the $99 premium bundle from wordpress.com and hosted the site through you guys. We are a small painting business, and I cannot find a site theme that looks as good as some of the third party themes. I recently discovered that I have to have the .org version of the site to upload third party themes. I started off using a free theme (yoko) but found that it wont let me do certain things that I want. I need a theme that allows for lots of Header customization i.e. Logo, catch phrase, phone number, email address, and to be able to place those where I want them. The only theme I’ve found that comes close to that criteria is the Business Identity theme for $175, but even that doesn’t have some of the header options that I want. So, are there any themes in the .com version of wordpress that are more geared to Contractors? Secondly, if I were to switch over to the .org version, would I be able to keep the same exact domain name? http://www.mayfieldpainting.com? or would I have to start all over and come up with a new domain name? Would I be refunded?

    Just some ideas:

    1. You could put the name, telephone, etc. info on an image and upload that as a header image. If you want it to be searchable add it somewhere else as well, in the footer for example. These themes allow for a custom header:

    2. Yes, you can move to a hosted wordpress.org website and keep the domain name. You will have to do some technical changes. There are documentation pages on this.

    3. Choose a different location, such as a widget in the sidebar for the info.

    4. Find a theme with a header widget, in which you could place the info, and then style the widget to fit to your taste for the site.

    A quick search for a ‘header widget’ theme, gives me the Responsive theme for example:

    There may be more themes with a header widget. You would have to do a more extensive search for that.

    Which third party themes were you considering? That will help me point you toward the closest fits available on WordPress.com. From there you can decide if the theme works, or if you’d rather go the self hosted (.org) route.

    You could keep your domain name. You would either keep your domain registered with us and map it to your new site, or you could transfer the domain to the new host. Note: ICANN regulations prohibit domain transfers for 60 days after a domain is registered, so if you decided to move within that window you’d have to start with domain mapping and then you could transfer the domain after the 60 days were over.
