i can't find where people can comment on my posts

  • Unknown's avatar

As far as I know, i have not disabled comments on my blog. But I can’t seem to find where readers can comment. I have tried looking at the blog from a logged-in and a logged-out stance, and a link to comment does not show either way.

    what am i missing?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi, they need to open your post by clicking on it’s name, and then scroll down.

For example, when I click on your last post’s name, it takes me to the page where I can comment your article.

Unless you use P2, a twitter-like theme comments are collapsed on the front page of the blog. The way the comments function is coded into the core of WordPress and cannot be changed by WordPress.com bloggers.Clicking the post title or the comments link on the posts on the front page the posts open on their own page where all comments display.

In a new blog one does not have many posts or comments. In an established blog if the comments did not collapse on the front page it would become a mile long in no time flat and page loading time is a page ranking factor. We have only seconds before visitors refuse to wait and click out.

thanks, mrlubomir – that helps, although it’s really counterintuitive – i guess it’s how wordpress gets you to pay for premium stuffs.

timethief, thank you, but i was looking for help on allowing comments on each post, not displaying them.

For clarity then note what follows.

All WordPress blogs by default have comments open on all Pages and Posts. Your visitors click the post tiles or the comment links or comment bubbles on the front page of the blog and they are directed to the full post appearing on it’s own page where the comment boxes appear at the end of the posts.

You can enable and disable comments on free hosted WordPress.com blogs on this page > Settings > Discussion Discussion settings is where you set up defaults for comments.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/

You can override the default settings and enable or disable future comments on any individual post or page.

Important Note: By default, new blogs on WordPress.com will have the Discussion hidden. You can reveal it by clicking on Screen Options http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ on the top right corner of your Admin page, and checking the box that says Discussion so the module is included. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules

timethief – still not helpful. it’s like you copied and pasted from their help pages, which i’ve already searched.

apparently the function i would like is simply not available. wp doesn’t make things very intuitive for us blogging dummies. that’s what i get for free.
