I can't follow Worpress blogs

  • Unknown's avatar

I can’t follow blogs. Until yesterday I could follow any blog at anytime. Suddenly, I’m unable to follow any blog. When I first click the “Follow” button at the top of a blog, it changes like it normally would to “Following.” When I refresh the page to confirm that I have followed, it changes back to “Follow.”

Any help, direction or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

This is happening to me as well. I follow a lot of people so want to know if there is a cap or whether it is a technical problem?

I’ve wondered about a cap also. I want to connect with as many bloggers writing similar material to what I write as I can. It’s by far the best way to introduce yourself to others and to stay connected.

The problem seems to be corrected today. I hope that trend continues.

It’s important to note that we cannot delete the spam likes, shares and spam followers from our blogs at this time. That’s a very BIG issue for many of us, who value followers, who truly appreciate our blog content and who value those who post relevant and meaningful comments, as opposed to the fakers who appear to be motivated to speed like, speed share, and speed follow many blogs by their desire to draw attention and traffic back to their own blogs.

Obviously there is a cap and obviously it will not be divulged. When any blogger violates the Terms of Service by speed liking many blogs, speed sharing from many blogs, and speed following many blogs in a very short time frame, then they are behaving exactly like spammers behave. And that’s when the spam prevention software kicks in and things change.

In the event that the Terms of Service Staff note the patterned behavior of a blogger who is addicted to spammer behavior they can and they will disable the social features on the offending blogger’s blogs. They will communicate with them and also encourage the offending bloggers who are emulating spammer behavior to use an external RSS feed reader (eg. Feedly.com), if they genuinely need to follow so many blogs.

This in no way stops those from submitting actual and meaningful comments on other bloggers blog posts.

It prevents them only from mass following and mass liking and mass sharing ie. it prevents them from abusing social features by using them as spamming tools, as those who do so are motivated to do so by their desire to draw attention and traffic back to their own blogs.

It’s my guess that you folks simply experienced a temporary glitch and you weren’t aren’t really acting like spammers. That said, this is a peer support forum and I am a Volunteer. Only Staff have access to the backend and only they can track your behavior. Also note that these matters are not discussed on public support forums. They are discussed in direct communication with Staff by email, if and when social features are disabled on blogs and notices are posted on dashboards.

Hi @foreignwanders and @doubleupoet – It looks like you both are able to follow blogs as of right now! If this happens again, please reach out directly to [email protected].

Thank you, Jeremy. The issue was resolved for several days but appears to have returned today.

    Hi @doubleupoet,

Our automated systems may interfere with behavior that appears more like a spam bot auto-following blogs WordPress.com than a human browsing and clicking. That’s because the follow feature was intended to help you keep up with blogs that you enjoy, not as a means of mass-promotion, which can frustrate other users.

If you believe you are experiencing an ongoing glitch, please feel free to reach out to staff directly by email at (email visible only to moderators and staff).

Thanks Timethief! I didn’t think the email address would get redacted. You can actually reach out directly to tosreports – at – wordpress.com. I’ll figure out why that email address is getting redacted!
