I can't get into my wordpress.com blog. "modlook"

  • Unknown's avatar

Note: I have the upgrade where you don’t have to use WordPress in the URL so I don’t know what the above address means.

All of a sudden, I can’t get into my wordpress.com blog, https://commonsensepost.com. If you type this URL into a browser as if you were surfing the net, the posts come up. However, I can’t get into my dashboard to post or make any changes to my site. I have had this site since 2011. I can get into some “generic” dashboard, but it only has one “canned” post.

Please let me know if You need any more info.

    Thanks!

    Once again, I don’t recognize this: alan841822068.wordpress.com.
This is what I’m used to: https://commonsensepost.com.

  • Hi there,

You’re currently logged in to another WordPress.com account (aberk) that the one that owns the site commonsensepost.com.

To recover access to that account and be able to continue using that website you need to do the following:

If you still have access to the email connected to the account, you can enter that email address in the password recovery tool:

    https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

If that doesn’t work, in order to regain access to a WordPress.com account, we’ll need one of the following things:

    * A transaction ID for any upgrades purchased for the account

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/transaction-id/

    * The WordPress.com account activation link, which we sent to your email address when you first registered with us. If the email you received included a confirmation button instead of a link, you can copy the activation URL by right-clicking on the button and selecting “Copy Link Address”€ (this text may slightly vary, depending on your browser).

Note that there are TWO gmail addresses. My main one is alan.berkelhammer@ gmail.com. Anything sent to (email visible only to moderators and staff) redirects to (email visible only to moderators and staff). Also please note this URL: http://commonsensepostdotcom.wordpress.com/. I actually typed in the “dotcom” in the excitement of signing up and then changed something in the dashboard so users wouldn’t see it. Here’s what I’ve found so far from WP and PayPal:

    Hi again:

I really can’t swear to anything at this point, frustrated to say the least, but I believe my user name is Aberkel or aberkel, not Aberk.

    Alan

  • Hi Alan,

Thank you for that information. Please use the password reset form by entering the email address (email visible only to moderators and staff) in the email field:

    https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

This will allow you to reset the password for your aberkel WordPress.com account.

After resetting the password log-out from the aberk account and log-in to the correct account (aberkel).

If you have any other questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.

Sorry, fstat, but I’m going around in circles here. I tried a few times, but It still comes up to the empty Aberk site. I understand that you want me to enter my email rather than username. If this is correct then which one? I know you have to redact emails, so just answer
    1) for (email visible only to moderators and staff), or
    2) for (email visible only to moderators and staff)

I will follow your instructions from your next reply. I have changed the password (more than once per your last instructions. Did this change it for the bad Aberk account or the one we’re trying to recover?), but I assume I should do it again as well. I’m not going to ask you anything else until I hear back from you.

Please be as simplistic and detailed as you can. I am an experienced user and former Excel developer (not since 2002), but I’m a little under the weather today and very frustrated. I’ve really got to get this done and please know how much I appreciate your help!!

    Hi Alan,

I’ve sent an email to the address we have on file for theaberkel account — this is the same email address your last purchase receipt was originally sent to. I will follow up with you there so we can work through the next steps together.

Did this change it for the bad Aberk account or the one we’re trying to recover?

Entering aberkel as the username in the password reset form will send a password reset link for that account only (not aberk).

Please let me know if you don’t receive my email.

    Thanks!

    Gemma,

I’m in. I logged out and back in again with no problems.
    Thank you so much.

Also, I haven’t used this blog much lately but I’ve decided to really go for it and build a following. I’m thinking about going to premium, the $8.00/month plan. Does it automatically include any features that I’m paying for now in upgrades? If so, is there any policy that can apply what I’ve paid in upgrades to the cost of Premium?

To answer your question from earlier, I just tried to get on, Thursday I believe, and I couldn’t get to my dashboard. The bad Aberk stuff kept appearing.

    Gemma:

It looks like everything is working now. I would appreciate it if you would keep this thread open though. I will be on the site a lot tomorrow and I would like to see if anything pops up then.

Also, I’m thinking of upgrading soon (see above entry, Mar 4,2018 9:13 AM). Please reply to my upgrading question(s) if possible. And once again, thanks to you and fstat for getting me back up and running.

    Alan
