I cant get my front page static

  Hi,
  I thought static meant that its not the page where people leave posts or comments. i’m trying to get just a front page that has an introductory few paragraphs and then have there be a second page where I and visitors can leave comments, posts, ya know – a blog. But when I set the front page static, then leave a post, it appears on my front page which is not what I want. how would I set it up with a front page with just paragraphs and then posts page where all the blog action happens?
