I can't get my left sidebar to work
-
I’m trying to move some things like RSS and blogroll to the left sidebar because I like to run large photos that these things sometimes overlap. I’ve noticed that most of the other blogs I read have an empty left sidebar. Is this because of theme choice?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Are you referring to the blog linked to your username wearing the Twenty Ten theme?
Twenty Ten supports six widgetized areas (two in the sidebar right hand side, four in the footer)

http://anchorstruck.wordpress.com/ is using 2010. It has no left sidebar.
On photo sizes, you can only have images that fit within the post or page body content area. Anything wider than that can kill your blog and either make the sidebar completely disappear, toss it down below all the content, or just turn your entire theme into a jumbled mess.
There are some themes that allow you to have a left or right sidebar, or both, and others that add or allow you to put your widgets at the bottom (bottom bars). There are even themes that offer the option of full-width (no sidebar) settings under theme options.

The 2 sidebars in Twenty Ten are 200 pixels in width and the 4 footers are 220 pixels in width. Are you clear on the fact that the maximum images diaply width in posts and on pages in that theme is 640 pixels?

No, I’m not clear about that thing you said. It is clear that I need to read up on this matter more. Thanks for your time. I’ll likely change to a theme that allows a left
sidebar, or move my blogroll to a page. -
You’re welcome. If you need help locating a theme with a left hand sidebar using the live demo site and feature filters here is a good idea. In the features section checkmark “Left Sidebar” and click the “Search” button. http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/
