I can’t get my website online properly and now I think it’s all messed up…

I paid for a domain and everything, got my website set up and ready to launch, then launched it without realizing it was on a ‘box1234something’ temporary domain. I am a newbie and asked my husband for help. For some reason he disabled Jetpack thinking I didn’t need it and somehow messed up the site. I tried restoring my website to the previous day’s information and it’s just a broken site now. Now, every time I log in to WordPress, it is showing me as having a different domain (that it wants me to pay for) and it’s starting over from the very beginning. Does anyone have any clue how I can fix this? I will suck it up if I have to start the designing all over again, but I want my original domain name that I’ve already paid for.

  • Hey there! It sounds like you’ve got some mixup between WordPress.com (our managed hosting) and WordPress.org (the free software).

You can actually connect a free site to our hosting through Jetpack, too. Folks tend to use this if they are managing several sites. But you would want to log into yourwpaddress.com/wp-admin — if it’s box temp domain or something like that, please contact your host so you can get the correct address for logging in.

Then, going forward, these forums are primarily for sites that use our free-tier hosting. We’re a little different from the WordPress software itself. This article explains some of the differences.

You’ll want to create an account at WordPress.org so you’ll have access to the correct community for your site. Or, you’d be welcome to host here; your plan would get direct support.

    I hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply! I was finally able to get it figured out, thankfully. I am on wordpress.com, but I just pushed some wrong buttons. I talked to Bluehost support and they gave me the information I needed to revert my site back to the way it was before I messed up. My domain had also somehow been transferred to WP instead of domain.com where I originally bought it from. I don’t understand it, really, but all is well now!
