I can't get rid of smart/curly quotes
-
I’m a copy editor, so this is a really big deal. I need to be able to have quotation marks appear as straight quotes, or have the ability to switch between straight quotes and curly quotes. In particular, I need to have an apostrophe appear as an apostrophe and not as an open single quote. Please please please tell me how to do this. I am using the Writr theme on my upgraded/not free site.

I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but WordPress core automatically converts straight quotes to curly quotes and there isn’t anything we can do to help you over-ride that change.
Is it especially problematic with the Writr theme or has it always been an issue for you?

I had never seen it be an issue before, and after seeing your reply I took a look at my post and now understand what happened. Because I had bolded a name, but not the apostrophe ‘s’ that followed, the apostrophe converted to a single open quotation mark. I guess I’m now changing my style for this site to not bold names, or not use an apostrophe ‘s’ after a bolded name, to avoid the issue. Thanks for the info.
