I can't get rid of the "uncategorized" category on my posts.

  I set up my blog categories and made Blog Categories the parent. On my recent post, I selected “food”. On the page though, “uncategorized” appears in addition to “food” even though I didn’t check the box. It should only appear if I didn’t select another category. What’s up?

  You can edit that post and assign another category to it. A default category (“uncategorized”) will be assigned to published posts if you don’t specify one. The name of the default category can be changed another one of your own choice under Settings > Writing in your dashboard.

  I have a whole lot of posts showing up as uncategorized even though the actual posts have categories. They seem to be temporary saved files.

  I think this might have occurred when the site was semi-down the other day. I noticed that when I tried to add categories, they wouldn’t add, and “uncategorized” was added instead.

  I’m going to through and manually delete after confirming that each one is correctly posted, but just FYI.

  You’ll definitely want to report that to staff via your dashboard help button. I bet there are a lot of other blogs that suddenly need fixing too.

  Time thief…

  I followed your instructions. When I got to the right page, it
  showed “uncategorized” but I couldn’t figure out how to change it
  to a specific category.

  I’m new to this…can you help this beginner?

  You can edit the “uncategorized” category and change it to suit you. Go to posts > post categories in the dashboard, hover over the title of the category name and then click the “edit” link. Make sure and click save when done.
