I can't insert images in the order or place I need

  My page (rather than a post) consists of a couple of paragraphs with one image in the text, and then beneath this a number of images without any text.
  I can see how to place an image into text, by putting the cursor at the place of insertion. However, if I want to place a new image below an existing one, the cursor does not appear below it. I would like to put a couple of blank lines below each image, before the next one, so they are not practically joined. But without being able to click the cursor on a line below an image, this is impossible.
  Also, not being able to place an image at the “bottom” of the rest means it appears at the very top of the page, before the text that’s already in place, as if by a default.
  I’ve had a look in the Text editor tab, to see if inserting </span> would help with the no-blank-lines problem, but that doesn’t work.
  Looking in Help, I can see about rotating, editing & even aligning images side by side, but this about above & below.
  Any help gratefully received…

  Please help with my query above, anyone! I can’t move forward until I can crack putting images on without them being so close together they look as if they’re joined.
  I’m using Motif theme.
