I can’t log in
-
I think I had a WordPress.com site years ago but I’m a student with SDSU and created a wordpress.org site. I tried logging in and it doesn’t recognize my username or password. I keep trying to reset my password and it’s telling me my username and email address do not exist. I am able to access this if I click the link from quick install that my school sent me. When I’m in my profile my username is kderoy21 and my email is (email visible only to moderators and staff) and it’s in there. I’m very confused about what’s happening and how to reset my password and sign in properly. I also don’t know why my username and email aren’t recognize yet they are in my profile. Would the fact that they are connected to an old wordpress.com account have anything to do with it? If so, how do we make it so I can sign in? Looking forward to getting this ironed out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
The site I need help with is A%20Tranquil%20Path. This site is not linked to my WordPress.com account.

Thanks for that! I don’t show that site is hosted here at WordPress.com, nor do we have a username
kderoy21in our system. Your email address is associated with your WordPress.com user accountequalpacketzzzhere. At one point the site was connected to your WordPress.com user account through the Jetpack plugin, but it isn’t at this time. However, that wouldn’t impact your ability to log into the site.
Since the website isn’t hosted with us, we’re limited to what we can help with, but we can point you in the right direction to get help.
If you’re able to login to the site using that link your school sent you, you should be able to see your login information and change your password under Users -> Profile -> under the account management section click the “set new password” button.
If you’re not able to log into the backend of your site, looking up the site’s WHOIS information, it looks like it’s hosted at Bluehost. I’m not sure if they can help you access the site if your university set this up for you, but it’s worth checking with them to see if they can help you reset your password. You can contact them here: https://www.bluehost.com/contact
I hope that helps!

Is there a way to send you a screenshot of what I see on my dashboard? I’m not sure if that would better explain it. It’s telling me my username and password to the .org site doesn’t exist but somehow, it’s linked here when I changed my avatar which I thought was strange.
If I totally delete WordPress.com it won’t do anything to my wordpress.org site?

Sure! That might help.
If you’re not familiar on how to take a screenshot, this support document will help explain how to make one:
Then, use a service like Snipboard.io to upload the screenshot and then share the image link from that service here and we’ll take a closer look.
Thanks!

This is from my wordpress.org site:https://snipboard.io/gix5bt.jpg
This is from wordpress.com:https://snipboard.io/4cRXQw.jpg
The avatar is the same which made me wonder if somehow the two are connected and that’s why I’m having issues. 🤷🏻♀️

Yes, and that is where you can change your login password on that same page if you scroll down the page to the area where you can set a new password.

The “avatar” is your Gravatar which is tied to your email address and will show the same image wherever you use that email address – it has nothing to do with account ownership/access/etc. You can read more about Gravatar here:
To bring this back to your original question – since you already have backend access and can update your password on your “.org” site, then you can use this link to login going forward using your username or email and the updated password here:

Again, since this site is not hosted here at WordPress.com, there’s not much more we can do to help here.
Cheers!

So strange! I went into my wordpress.com area and changed the main email address. Then I went into the dashboard of my wordpress.org site once that email was changed on the .com site. I updated the password there and it actually let me. When I went to log in again it worked. I think somehow having both emails on the two different ends somehow made something weird happen because now my issue seems to have resolved. Thanks again for troubleshooting with me! I appreciate your time.
