I can’t log in to my account using the desktop app

I log in thru emailed links so I have no problem logging in using the website (on chrome) and on the mobile app which is connected to my google account. Should I just uninstall the desktop app or will I ever be able to log in using it? Should there be a button to email me a log in link or to log in using gmail?

Hi –
I would suggest deleting the desktop app, and reinstalling it fresh. Then see if you can login.

I have just updated the app before posting this question but I still uninstalled and reinstalled it and found nothing new. Am I supposed to be able to log in using the desktop app?
I can log in using chrome by going to wordpress.com login page. The site asks me for my email address, I type it in, they send me email containing the link to log in on my account. I check my email, click on that link, and I’d be logged in, ready to post or do some edits. That’s the process I follow when on my desktop.
On my mobile device, I open the wordpress mobile app which I linked to my google account. Then I can start editing some drafts.
I’m thinking maybe there’s a need for a “send link” or “log in using Google/Apple account” button/s on the desktop app?
It’s okay if I can’t use it for now if you think those buttons are really needed to be added by devs. But if you are saying “no, you must be able to log in by now without those buttons”, how? The desktop app keeps telling me that my google password or email is incorrect. Should I really be able to log in without those buttons? Do I need to make adjustments on my computer?
My site is currently private. I’m still creating some content.

Hi there,
All you need to log into your desktop app is your username/email, password, and if you have it set up, a verification code for two-step authentication. You should not need anything else.
Are you using Windows Desktop app or the MacOS app? Also, is it the
1emdcaccount you are trying to log into? -

I’m using a Windows Desktop app.
I’ve tried to type in my email address into where it says “email address or username” then my password in the next box. Then it says password or email is incorrect. I tried using my username 1emdc instead, same result. Made it @1emdc, still the same. I can’t make up a password.
But when I go to the website (wordpress.com), all I need to do is provide my email address, and I will receive an email with link to log in to my account.
Do I need to setup a new password for this app? Will it not affect my login on the website or my mobile app?
I can log in to my account through the web and mobile app. I think it’s because I got them linked to my google account so I won’t have to make a separate password.
It seems like this app won’t work without creating another password for it doesn’t seem (maybe I’m wrong) to offer logins through google/apple accounts like the website or mobile app do.
Using this desktop app, I can log in with no problem to my old wordpress account that I haven’t connected to a google account because back then, google (or wordpress) doesn’t offer it yet. For my old site, all I need are my 2nd email and password (different from my google account or email password).
Now that there’s that option to link apps and services to Google/Apple accounts, I make use of it on my mobile device and some sites like my new wordpress.

Please go to https://wordpress.com/me/security and change your password from there. You should be able to log into the desktop app using your username or email address and the new password.

There’s a reason I linked my wordpress account to my google account.
