I can't open Documents in wordpress Media files

  • Unknown's avatar

The Images in my wordpress Media files seem to work just fine.
But for the Documents, I get only the title & the date posted – they won’t open. Also, the urls for those Document don’t work – when I try to use them, nothing happens.
PLEASE, someone, make me Happy and show me how to fix this. Obviously, I’m not very computer literate, so please make your explanation as simple as you can.
    Thank you.

Here is additional information which may be material:

I emailed hyperlinks containing the urls to several Documents on my word press media files to another person, and the links opened on the other person’s computer!

So this is a mystery to me! But you experts may find this new information significant.

Hello, Experts! I know you are out there!

Here is another set of Facts which may be material: I once did everything on Firefox. But because Firefox was so slow, I started using Vimeo for my gmail. But Vimeo was a pain, and Firefox updated and became faster. So I went back to Firefox for my gmail.

It was shortly after I returned to Firefox for my gmail that I was no longer to open – from Firefox – my word press Documents in my media library.

HOWEVER, I am able to open – from VIMEO – my word press Documents in my media library. Vimeo is a pain to use – I’m used to Firefox and would like to return to it.

    Please help!

    Where are the Happiness Engineers?

  • Hi fscut.

Can you please share a link to your website so we can better help you

Hello there, it seems your post fell through the cracks. Thanks for bringing it back up.

But for the Documents, I get only the title & the date posted – they won’t open. Also, the urls for those Document don’t work – when I try to use them, nothing happens.

Documents aren’t meant to open in the Media Library at https://wordpress.com/media/documents/ but you can insert a link to them in a post or page following this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/uploading-documents/

Looking at your site I was able to open the first link to a PDF document in your post from January 14th. Have other site visitors mentioned they are not able to open those links?

@epoolman the site is hosted on WordPressdotcom, but the link is not available as the site is marked mature. *A quick way to see if the site is hosted here is to look at the user’s profile to see what assistance they’ve received in the past.

    *Edited to add…

    Thank you!!!!!

    Here’s my website:
    https://publiushuldah.wordpress.com/

MY site is marked “mature”? I’m a lawyer and write on our Constitution!

But I get lots of spam which is porn. Perhaps if I’m taken off the “mature” list, I’ll stop getting the vile porn spam.

So please put me on the “clean and decent” list.

    Hi fscut,

Following on from @justjennifers reply – I’m also able to open the PDFs on your site. I clicked on the federal government link at the top of your homepage. A screenshot of what you are seeing when you try to view it would be helpful if you’re able to send one:

    Take a Screenshot

Please include the whole page and upload the screenshot to your Media library so I can take a look.

I’ll need to speak to the relevant team about your site being marked as mature.

    Thanks!

We seem to have solved the problem respecting my not being able to access my documents in my wordpress media files:

As you saw, others could access those documents from the links I provided here and there.

The problem was in the applications settings of the firefox browser respecting pdfs – it somehow got changed.

I don’t know the correct terminology so I’m sorry if my comment seems semi-literate.

On the other issue – re my site being marked “mature”: does that mean it’s classified as a porn site?

If so, please fix that ASAP – that’s embarrassing!

    Hi fscut,

Thanks for your patience while I checked on this for you. It appears an automated system check incorrectly marked your site as mature. We have now corrected this and your site is no longer marked as mature.

re my site being marked “mature”: does that mean it’s classified as a porn site?

No, content is marked as mature if it isn’t considered to be suitable for younger audiences:

    Mature Content

Adult content is one example but there are other topics too. Pornography isn’t permitted on WordPress.com and any sites containing that material will be suspended.

I hope this helps put your mind at rest.
