I can’t open my own websites

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello, I just checked my website, which I use for my portfolio, and can’t open it. Any idea what’s the problem? I’m currently running on the free plan, though but I never had that same problem before, only now. Please help me as I really need that website to promote my work, everything I wrote for the past 2 years is here.

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Your site is working normally for me.

Are you speaking of the site itself at http://gogaportfolio.wordpress.com/, or of the dashboard where you make changes? And what are you seeing? A blank screen? An error message?

Please check if clearing your browser cache, using a different browser, or using a different internet connection helps at all.

Yes, I’m talking about the site itself.

    “This site can’t be reached
Check if there is a typo in gogaportfolio.wordpress.com.
if spelling is correct, try running Windows Network Diagnostics.
    DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN”

This is the exact text I’m receiving on my screen.
I sent the link to my friend that lives in a different country and therefore he uses a whole different PC and network but he can’t access the website either.

I’ll try clearing my cache and will let you know if it works.
    Thanks for your reply.

I can’t acces to the dashboard where I change stuff too.

So, here’s everything I tried so far, I can’t think of anything else to fix this problem.
I cleared my cache file, I tried connecting it from my 2nd PC, I downloaded a different browser, still not working.

The site worked fine from my phone but it’s not working from my PC and laptop and I really need it on PC. Every piece of advice will be helpful.

I can confirm your site https://gogaportfolio.wordpress.com/ is up and running. You can check this yourself online at https://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/gogaportfolio.wordpress.com?proto=https.
Perhaps your country blocks wordpress.com websites? Possible solutions are at https://wordpress.com/support/bypassing-internet-restrictions/

  • Hi @mcdoping,

This sound like it’s either a browser and/or network issue. Have you tested your site on another device/network (e.g. a mobile phone using cellular data)?

If it works on another network, I suggest first clearing your browser cache, and then restarting both your modem/router, as well as your computer.

    Hope that helps!

I tried to connect my website through my other PC. It didn’t work but then it worked from my phone on the same network. Then I tried to connect it on my brother’s phone but it didn’t work again. I cleared my cache but it didn’t work. I’ll try to restart my router now, hope it works.

  • Hmm, when checking on your brother’s phone, was the device using the same network as your phone and PC?
Let us know if restarting the router helps.

If it doesn’t, could you let us know where you are located?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yeah, my brother was using the same network as my phone and PC. Sadly restarting my router didn’t help. I’m from Georgia (a country in Caucasia, not state) My country isn’t restricting using of WordPress as far as I know.

All I got left is to contact my internet supplier I guess, I can’t think of anything else I could do to fix this issue.

Here are some tips that you can look up if there were any trouble in your internet connection to your WordPress site:

    1. open a dos box if you are using Windows (or if you are a mac user, open terminal)

    2. type “nslookup gogaportfolio.wordpress.com” to find out which server your site is served by WordPress.com. In my case, it is lb.wordpress.com

    3. type “tracert lb.wordpress.com”(windows) or “traceroute lb.wordpress.com” to see if there is any issue for the route to the server.

If the process can be done with out issues, you can make sure there is no issues for your PC to your website. If it stop at some point, that is where the problem occurs. You can take a screenshot or copy the results to your ISP’s service contact.

  • Hi there,

Contacting your ISP would be our next suggestion as well.

If you have a VPN, you can also check if it works via that. That can help confirm whether the issue might be with your ISP.

nslookup gogaportfolio.wordpress.com – says server: Unknown when I type it in CMD.

  • Hm, what country and ISP are you browsing from?

Also, please try the recommendations at https://wordpress.com/support/bypassing-internet-restrictions/ and let us know if any of those worked.
