I can’t read the spam Askimet is catching
-
I want to find out if the comments Askimet is catching are really spam or legitimate comments, but when I click on either Askimet or the number reported spam comments caught, all I get is another page stating the number, that there are no comments in queue, and that this is probably my lucky day. I can’t get any further than this.

Just for reference, I polite point you to the search bar at the head of the forums. It’s there for a reason. I found the following thread by searching for Akismet:

Hope this helps,

I had already done a search before posting and had seen that thread, but couldn’t find a reference to my particular problem: I simply can’t read the comments that are being caught as spam. Right now it says I have 42 spam comments. Fair enough. I click on that. I get to another page. Is that all there is? Is there any page where spam comments are itemized line-by-line so I can see the address they are from and the contents?
One poster on that thread said “I like the option of dumpster-diving back.” I’d like to know how to do this. Do I have to register on Askimet for that? Truly sorry if there’s a thread spelling this out already, but I can’t find it. -
Greets:
Go back to that thread and go down about ten posts and read Mark’s response. He states what is occuring.

OK, thanks – I see that, but at the same time I have *never* from day one been able to read the spam comments.
Is it possible to “see” ones account at Askimet, or somehow turn off this feature so you can actually see what’s coming in? -
The Askimet blog says: Instead of just viewing the last 150 comments, you can now page through everything caught by Akismet.
Great!
Just wondering how.

The next day about 30 spam appeared on the same page on which there always used to be none. Dumpster now dived, no real comments in spam list – much relieved, thank you!

Hi
I have the same issue and have read other posts inc. the FAQ with a partial answer…
It seems that with a non download version of WP that the facility to configure the API key is non existent…[this is not what I am hoping for I want to know if it is possible to review the spam caught prior to deletion] and that Spam is only able to be viewed on the dashboard as >Comments>Akismet Spam
Is this right? because my spam have never appeared here and I would like very clear and specific help with configuring the API key to enable reading of Akismet spam for this WP version.
TY very much -
The version available for the wordpress.org blogs includes a setting to not autodelete anything marked as spam made to posts over 30 days. To my knowledge, that’s the only difference.
-
Thanks
Then, how can I read the spam, ie. which heading on the dashboard do I find “plugins” or wherever else I am meant to type in the API key and check the spam, please?
Thanks -
To check the spam on a WordPress.com blog you go to Dashboard –> Comments –> Akismet Spam. You can also get to the spam from your Blog Stats page, in the box on the bottom left-hand corner. Click on the spam total to get to the Akismet spam file.

Well I can say that there is a bug because I have only now been able to read the spam and that was by posting a fake comment until then it read (0) and when I posted at comments>akismet spam (5) that were not from today’s date.
Go figure? -
There’s a bug unrelated to Akismet that is sending comments back and forth in time. They’re working on it.

Where can I see the comment Askimet have “reg”? I have 3, but I can´t see them. My Askimet look like this: Dashboard > comments > Askimet spam(0) – why 0, when it says I have 3 from today?

akismet continues to eat up legit comments and then doesn’t show me the comments to approve. this has been going on since I started my blog last month and 2 emails to support have left me with one reply of ‘i’ll look into it’ and no result. it’s a shame because I also have to deal with emails from people asking why their comment doesn’t show. it would be wonderful if i could just turn off the filter because I have it set so that no comments are posted without me moderating anyways.

I just removed 655 “legitimate” comments that Akismet caught. Interestingly enough they were on a private blog that has no users designated other than myself and no links at all. Weird, eh?
-
I’ve gotten the same “we’ll look into it.” That was from wordpress support. An email to Askimet went unanswered.
