I can't see the sidebar (and its widgets) in this theme: please help!

    Hello!
    I am having trouble getting the sidebar to show up on the main page. When I go to the Customizer and click on “Widgets,” I get this message:

    Your theme has 1 other widget area, but this particular page doesn’t display it.

    Please advise! I would be very grateful for any help.

    Hi there!

    In the documentation for the Baskerville 2 theme (https://wordpress.com/theme/baskerville-2) about widget areas it says:

    Baskerville 2 offers four widget areas:

    • The optional Sidebar, which appears on the right in single posts and pages using the default template.
    • Three optional Footer widget areas.

    If there are no widgets in the Sidebar area, the theme automatically adjusts to a single column.

    It means that the posts page can not display the optional Sidebar. The sidebar widget area will display on static pages with either the default or contributors templates assigned.

    Thank you! That makes sense. I guess I need to switch Themes, then. (If you have any suggestions with easy-to-use sidebars, I’d be very grateful!)

    Glad I could help! There are few themes with easy-to-use sidebars (Apostrophe 2 should be one of those), you can do a direct search on the Themes area (a simple search for “right-sidebar” for instance) and see which one it suits you best (just read the Widget Areas section of the theme documentation before activate).
    Also if you are not already aware of it, a useful piece of information about widgets (and widgets visibility) can be found here:

    And in case you don’t want to leave your theme, since you may display widgets in the sidebar widget area on the front page only if it is set to display a static page, you could set up your homepage as a static front page (of course if it is something you want to):
