I can't seem to make the blog show

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I have purchased premium theme (largo) and an upgraded account as well as a domain name. I have created a header and tagline, pages and a menu but I ca’t seem to get any of this to reflect in the preview. What am I doing wrong?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I have tried clearing cache and cookies to no avail; still can’t see my changes applied to my blog.

Also, I note my domain is ‘thethinker.com’ but in the top right hand corner of this page it displays as: ‘ththinker.co’ i.e., the ‘e’ in the word ‘the’ is missing. Could this be the cause of my problem?

    Hello there!

I took a look at your account.

A couple observations: Your custom domain name is thethinker.co. It is connected to your WordPress.com site, thethinkerdotco.wordpress.com.

I took a look for the domain you mentioned, thethinker.com, and it is not registered at WordPress.com. Do you own this domain? If so, it is registered elsewhere. I can help you connect it to your site, if you do have ownership. Let me know!

The reason you have an error message when you look at your front page is that your main page is setup to display your blog’s posts. However, you don’t have posts. This is fine…but what you will want to do is setup your font page as a static page.

    Here’s how:

    Set the Homepage

    Most Importantly:
You should also read through Largo’s setup/support page:
    https://wordpress.com/themes/largo/support/

It will step you through the process of making your site look like the theme’s demo.

Your premium theme also has a specialized support page, should you have any questions with the site’s layout:

    http://premium-themes.forums.wordpress.com/forum/largo

Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks much!

  • I am seeing your domain as thethinker.co and I am seeing it point to http://thethinkerdotco.wordpress.com/.

Here is a screenshot of what I am seeing: http://snag.gy/1ec9x.jpg

The “menu” button in the upper left hand corner is hard to see because you have a white/white color setup currently. Using a different color combo would make it much easier to see. There are some examples on the Largo support page here: https://wordpress.com/themes/largo/support/

Finally, you are seeing the “this is embarassing” message because you have your front page set to show blog posts (rather than a static page) and you have not made any blog posts yet: http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

  • Haha,

Well, you seem to have gotten double staff info there. Hope that wasn’t too confusing!

Let me know if any of that doesn’t make sense and we will help you sort it out.

    Hello ThatRobyn
Thank you for your guidance, it has been very helpful.
In relation to my domain name, I purchased it from WordPress and have ownership and would like to connect t to my site. Can you please advise what I should do to make this happen?
    Thank you, in anticipation.

Is that not the site you are trying to point it to? If not, what is the URL of the site you ARE trying to have it point to?

    Thank you again root josh.

I am wondering of there are any tutorials about setting up my pages; I seem to be making quite a mess of them. I’m trying to get them to look the same as the home page but I suspect this is not available within the template ( have worked though the Largo set up tutorial and perused the Largo support forums to no avail) any help you can offer will be gratefully accepted.

    Thanks again.

  • Have you worked your way through this:

    Homepage

It is a really good resource for those just starting out with WordPress.com.

    Hi again

OK. I’ve read every tutorial in this section: https://learn.wordpress.com/ as well as the Largo theme tutorials and I’m pretty comfortable with using this platform.

The only thing I can’t figure out is how to make all my pages look the same as the page my posts to appear on, i.e. my homepage (I don’t want a static homepage where my readers have to click through to get to my posts).

I have set up the pages I require and published them with Latin placeholder text for now. What I want to know is how to make them look the same as the homepage.

I’d be very grateful for your help with this last problem.

    Thank you, in anticipation.

    Hi there!

Do you mean with the vertical split? Instead of the large horizontal image above your page’s content?

This theme doesn’t support this. This type of change using CSS code would be quite large and involved. If you want to explore that option, you’ll need to post over in the CSS forums.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

    Hello again

    I am having two issues:

    1. I have selected Open Sans for my body text but an italic is displaying instead. I have reviewed both the post and custom font selections and neither is set to italic. Can you please help?

    2. I wish to link to my business page (https://www.facebook.com/thethinkeraz) not my personal FaceBook page but the sharing button won’t allow this. Can you help please?

    Thank you again.

It looks like you’re referring to the post summaries displayed our your front page here:

    http://thethinker.co/

Since the post content does not seem to be in italics:

    The Importance of Healthy Cohabitation

This is a feature of the theme, but if you’d like to remove the italics, you can do this by adding this code to the CSS pane in your Customizer:

    .entry-summary {
    	font-style: normal;
    }

    2. I wish to link to my business page (https://www.facebook.com/thethinkeraz) not my personal FaceBook page but the sharing button won’t allow this. Can you help please?

Are you referring to the sharing button at the bottom of your posts?

    Add Social Share Buttons

Or the automatic publishing we do through Publicize?
