I’m happy to help sort this out. Can you walk me through the steps you’re taking and include any error messages in your reply? Or is the app crashing all together?

I cannot understand why you think anything is broken.
When you click boil link the HTML code for it is

and to close the bold tag the HTML code is

If you view the post from the visual editor you will see the real time changes, the text will just appear bold.
From the html editor, you will see the changes that happen to actually make the text bold which includes the code mentioned by timethief.
