I can't set up menu
-
Hi
I am having few problems with my blog. I have tried changing the theme, clearing, retyping, etc
1. I need to set up a simple menu across horizontally – e.g Home, About, Reviews and Advertising. How do I do this (without publishing first)? I have tried to create this as pages and organise using Menus – doesn’t work
2. LInking to the website in the page About – doesn’t work. I need to say – visit here and insert a hyperlink in “here”. I have used the link tool in the post – doesn’t work.
3. Facebook like box – just shows my face and blank space. It’s my professional page. No wall, nothing shows.
I am so frustrated. Please help!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Advertising! You aren’t allowed to initiate advertising at all on any WordPress.com blog. You need to hire a web host and set up your own WordPress.ORG install to run ads.
We do have an advertising program called WordAds, which you can read more about here: http://wordads.co/
Advertising outside of WordAds at WordPress.com is not allowed. For full details, please see:
http://support.wordpress.com/advertising/

http://en.wordpress.com/tos/If you require other advertising, you might be interested in a self-hosted (WordPress.org) installation. There are no restrictions on advertising if you setup a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead of a WordPress.com blog, but there are some added responsibilities. Please see this link to learn about the differences:

P.S. Once you reply to what I posted above I will answer your other questions, providing you are remaining here at WordPress.COM.

Thank you for your quick response. However, I am not going to advertise anything – I merely writing a text explaining how advertising on my main site works, prices, etc. No advertising on this blog.

Okay.
1. Setting up a menu is easy as pie, provided you know the differences between Posts and Pages, and the differences between static Pages, (which will never automatically update) and dynamic Categories pages which will automatically update when you publish Posts with Categories assigned to them.

You cannot redirect your blog About Page to your website or to any external site.
You can create a custom link direct to your website and include it in a custom menu.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/ -
There are many common errors, misunderstandings and misconceptions when creating custom menus and there are some tweaks you can use to improve your custom menu as well.

3. Facebook like box – just shows my face and blank space. It’s my professional page. No wall, nothing shows.

Thank you for the links – have read them and it doesn’t solve the problem. I cannot seem to insert static pages across. This is what I am trying to replicate
Can you see how they have Home, about, reviews, advertising across?
I would like the same thing.
Also, the widget on RHS – I would also like ‘Recent Posts” so I insert it using widgets (by dragging into Primary) and save – it’s not there when I preview!

have been trying and trying. Every page I create shows under the menu where my posts will be. Furthermore, new page overrides the old one. All created pages show in my Drafts but don’t appear in the blog.
I want them static, all in one line in the graphic heading across. Like in that blog.
I’ve tried playing around with the Menus (ticking/unticking Primary options, etc) but nothing.
Do they have live support for someone to see my blog on the screen and help me?

Live chat is available only to those who have Business upgrades. I’ll tag this thread for Staff. Another Volunteer may answer prior to Staff but I tagged the thread so it will not fall through the cracks and escape attention. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

http://mumsnetlocalportsmouth.wordpress.com/ has a static front page
http://ealingblog.wordpress.com/ does not have a static front pageBy default the front page of your blog displays all published posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. That is for the convenience of your returning visitors, who come to read your latest post, and who are not likely to be happy with being compelled to click through the same static page with the same blah, blah, blah on it every time they visit the blog looking for the latest post. It’s also for newcomers who can click out very quickly is they do not find your most recent content.
However, if you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page called whatever you wish for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts called whatever you want. To do that create two pages first http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.

All created pages show in my Drafts but don’t appear in the blog.
Troubleshooting – My Pages aren’t appearing
refer to http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
They must be public pages – not Posts, not private and not drafts so check the page visibility setting on each one http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-visibility/.
Public – The page will be visible to everyone.
Protected – The page is protected with a password you set. Only people who have the password can view a protected page.
Private – Pages are only visible to blog Editors and Administrators. Private pages are not visible in Reader, feeds, or in any search. A page can be private without being password protected.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/If you have created a custom menu then add the Page to it.

Note that you can enable this on your custom menu settings at the bottom of the page:

Hi there, sorry for the delay in replying to this.
For a menu, you will first need to create the page of content that will reside at each link in the menu. So, for an “about” page, you will need to first create what is on the about page and title that page “About”, and it will show up in your menu.
To customize your menu further, you can use the Custom Menus option:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/You can make a page show up on the internet by “publishing” it by clicking on the Publish in the editor.
You might find this site helpful in getting started:
http://learn.wordpress.com/Why don’t you try publishing a page or two to see how they work, and how they show up in the menu automatically? You can always delete the pages (or update the content) later.
