I can’t update my categories?

The edite button is there and it lets me do all I want, but once I hit “update category,” it takes me back to the category page with a note saying “category not updated.”
Is this just a glich or is there something I can do about it?

Categories and tags are different; make sure you don’t have a tag called the same thing as the Category you’re trying to edit. That causes problems.

Oh, I know the difference between tags and categories. It’s the categories I’m having a problem with. Maybe it’s just a glich.

Post Categories and Tags are not the same as Link Categories.
The Links Widget lets you display links to other blogs and sites.
You can organize the links into categories, like “My Friends” “My Other Blogs” “Music I Like” and so on.

If you have duplicate names in categories and tags then you can run into this problem when trying to rename them. It is also not a good idea to duplicate names in tags and categories because as far as the search engines are concerned, tags and categories are the same, and they treat them that way. They see it as duplication and if it happens a lot, they get crabby, label you a tag spammer and whack a chunk off of your page rank.
At wordpress I’ve found the following to be true:
If you have a category named “castor oil” and a tag by the same name but Capitalized (“Castor Oil”), and you go in and try to capitalize your category “castor oil” it will not work.
Bottom line, it does NO good to have duplicate category and tag names since they are treated the same by the search engines anyway, and it leads to problems when you try and edit or change the names of categories or tags that are duplicates.
