I can’t update the main page!!!??

Some how I lost all the text/photos on the site lilyluna.net. I can add pages but none of them show up as home page. How do I edit the mail page? It is a page and not a post.

    Thanks!!!!

You I think have some confusion between posts and pages. Posts are what show up on the main page.

    A Post and a Page

Perhaps but if you look at brockluna.com – the home page is a page not a post. There are no posts listed in the dashboard for this site.

I added a post to lilyluna.net and it shows as a homepage post – but it has post/comment data at bottom whereas the brockluna.com homepage page does not.

Somehow I got it done with a page. Other thoughts?

If you go to lilyluna.net and create a temporary post and publish it, it will show up on the main page. Pages can have comment sections just the same as a post, but they are for static content since unlike the main blog post page, you cannot add other posts to those pages, all you can do is edit the existing page and add text to whatever is there.

Did you perhaps under options > reading set your blogs to have a “static front page?”

Go to presentation > widgets and put the “pages” widget into your sidebar. There is currently no way to navigate around your sites.

1 – I had already added a temp “post” to lilyluna.net but it looks like a post, not a page. On brockluna.com I have only created a “page” and it looks the way I want it too. lilyluna.net was the same but I deleted the page somehow and now I can’t re-create a page as the home page. How can I create the home page as a page like I have with brockluna.com?

2 – Why do I want page navigation widgets if I only intend to have 1 page?

It sounds like you don’t want a blog, but simply a web page. Blogs list posts chronologically on the main page. One of the advantages to posts is that people can comment on them individually.

If you only want one page create a page and name it whatever you want to use as your main page. Then create a second page and call it blog (this is require or things will get messed up).

Go to options reading and set your “static front page” to the page you want to display. The set the page you created called “blog” as the place to show the posts and then click update options. You now have your static page. To add anything to that page in the future, you will have to edit it and then save it. If you want, you can turn comments off whe the page is open for edit by unchecking the “allow comments” under discussion in the row of blue bars at the right side of the text edit area.

To have a static page in front of the blog: http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/02/20/having-a-static-page-at-the-front-of-the-blog/
Depending on the theme, this may lead to two “home” links in the header: here is a how-to for removing the double link (if it applies to you):

I have 2 Home page links

I got it now folks. Used the Options/Reading function. Apparently when I accidentally deleted the main page before it lost its option selection too. Thanks for all your help!
