I can't upload a abckground

Hi everyone,
I have started a new blog and chosen a simple theme called SemPress but when I upload a pic as a background it eventually says it’s saved but I cannot see it/it does not actually show.I have tried various pics in case a particular photo was responsible.ANysuggestions as to what I can try here? Otherwise……..suggestions of other simple themes that will actually take a pic as a background for free will be appreciated.

The background I uploaded onto WordPress.com servers appears in my Media Library and is displaying in my test blog wearing SemPress. I’m not clear on what you uploaded but I suggest you take a close look at accepted file types for images > http://en.support.wordpress.com/accepted-filetypes/ and also see http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/troubleshooting-images/

(1) Is the missing image found in your Media Library ie. did you upload it from your computer onto WordPress.com servers? And, if so, then is it still in the Media Library now? Please check.
Or is the missing image one you have linked to on some other server somewhere else online such as flickr or photobucket who allow hotlinking?

If you removed any images from your Media Library then they cannot be displayed. If you are hotlinking to images on sites that don’t allow that the images will not be displayed.

Bottom line: You cannot use any image as a background and expect it to display unless it is an accepted file type and has been uploaded onto WordPress.COM servers.
