I can't verify my site with Google – code not working

  Hi there,

  Hope you’re well today :)

  I’m trying to verify my website on my Google + dashboard.

  I cut and pasted the code into the CSS Home page, but when I test it, I get this message:

  “Check that the line of code has been added to your site’s homepage and that the modified homepage is live on your site. Then try testing again.”

  Can you help me fix what is wrong?

  Howdy Katie!

  I have an inkling that the method you’re trying won’t work on WordPress.com. Just to clarify, you’re trying to verify your site with Google Authorship. Is that correct? Could you point me to the instructions you’re following so I can take a look?

  Hey Katie!

  I believe this is what you’re looking for:

  http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/

  That will show you how you can verify your site with Google’s Webmaster Tools. Can you take a look and let me know if that’s similar to what you’re looking for?

  Ahh, great, thanks for that! Question, how do I “upload” the HTML file to WordPress? I can’t work out that step!

  Hey Katie! You don’t be able to upload an HTML file. Instead, you’ll want to copy and paste the code into the form here:

  https://joyfactorylondon.wordpress.com/wp-admin/tools.php

  That’s explained a bit more in step #7 here:

  Let me know if that doesn’t work!

  So, one other question, If I now go to Google +, I’ve come full circle. I want my Google + page to show up on search, and this is where I wanted to add that code to my site, where would I put it?

  Been following these instructions:

  Hey Katie,

  Are you following the instructions under Webmaster linking? You won’t be able to do the Direct linking method. I believe the Webmaster linking should work though.
