I changed my blog's timezone and lost data in stats
-
For example it went from a count of 40+ visitors to 1 for yesterday.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Any views subtracted from yesterday’s stats when you changed the timezone would be added to either the previous day’s stats or today’s, depending upon the direction of the change.
-
Intuitively that’s what I expected. However, only 14 visitors transferred over – so roughly 1/3 of original projections.

You may add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar here to call for staff attention, if you’d like an explanation of the difference you report.
-
keep in mind that there are two points in the time that switch dates – so you are dealing with three dates – the day you were looking at – the day before and the day after (I am guessing that is today)

@ auxclass,
Yes, but the transfer of views after a timezone change move in only one direction. If 14 were added to today’s count, then 14 should have been subtracted from yesterday. However, some from the previous day’s views count may have been added to yesterdays total as well. Therefore, if yesterday’s views were 41 prior to the timezone change, the new total would be 41 – 14 + x, where x is the unknown to be added from the day before yesterday’s total views. Yesterday’s new view count should be at least 27 views. -
could be added or subtracted depending on the specific hours of the visitors over a 3 day period

Yes, but the change is only in one direction. You couldn’t have some of the views from yesterday added to today and some of the views from yesterday added to the day before yesterday. If yesterday loses 14 views to today, it’s going to either gain none or gain some from the previous day. Hence, the total is 41 – 14 + x.

Hi there! While I can’t be 100% sure without seeing your previous stats, it looks like currently your stats show:
- Sunday: 78 views
- Monday: 31 views
- Tuesday: 4 views
Since you moved from UTC to New York time, the change moved your views to the previous day. (This is the opposite of what musicdoc1 was describing, though the underlying concept and math is the same.) This is a change of -5 hours. Meaning that what was previously 3am on January 2 would now be 10pm on January 1.
If you’re looking at visitors, this could be a little different. If Alice visited your site at 3pm on January 1 and then again at 3am January 2, we would have seen one visitor on Jan 1 and one visitor on Jan 2. When you changed the timezone, both of those visits would have happened on Jan 1, which means you’ll see one visitor on Jan 1 and zero on Jan 2 (instead of seeing two visitors on Jan 1, and zero on Jan 2).
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions!
