I changed my URL and I can’t go back!

I’m designing my first website and I’m using WordPress, obviously. I go into the Settings and tried to change my URL from the long, jumbled default to the actual name of my website, but now I can’t access any part of my website I can’t edit themes, add posts, or even view Settings in neither the app or website. I need to restore it to before I messed everything up, but how can I if I can’t access anything? I can change the clunky URL in the future, but I still need to have a site FOR the URL. I’m not a professional developer so please talk to me like I’m in second grade.

  • Hi there,

Can you please let me know your site’s address so I can point you in the right direction of getting support?

Please note that these forums are for WordPress.com hosted sites only. If your site is using the open source WordPress.org software you need to seek help at these forums:

My default domain name is http://box5499.temp.domains/~nugamepl/

I tried to set it to NuGamePlus.com because that’s the name I bought and I didn’t want the WordPress brand on it. I can’t access any settings like add posts or nothing. It all directs me to a new page with the error DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN

I honestly have no clue what to do and I just need my site restored. I greatly appreciate any help you can provide!

You’re posting into the support forum for free sites hosted at WordPress.com but your temporary site is with BlueHost and NuGamePlus.com was purchased from Google Domains. If neither of them can assist you then you need to register an account at the correct support forum for the software you are using as already indicated by @fstat.

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

  • @dominictheauthor I can confirm your best bet in this case is to contact the host, and ensure the domain is properly attached and pointing to that site. Good luck.
