I deleted my old blog and took with it the new domain I was registering. Help?

Earlier today I was going to register a new free wordpress account. Both the user name and URL I wanted were available. When I entered my email address it told me I was already registered and could not register two user names under one email address. Okay. I logged into my account and set upon making some changes, deleting a old site, changing my user name, attempting to change my URL… Uh-oh, the URL I am requesting is already in use..? I went to the URL and saw “this page has been deleted”. Ummm okay, it was available a hour ago. So what am I going to do? I can’t delete my account but I can transfer my email address and start over fresh with at least my user name by changing it on the account I transferred making it available again right? WRONG! Nope nope nope, changing my username will forever and ever delete it a prevent new users from registering it. Well what can I do now? I really don’t know because I am pretty sure I deleted the URL when I changed my username and deleted my old URL without knowing what I was doing. Is there ANYTHING I can do to retrieve it or is it gone forever? I really don’t think anyone else registered the account and the deleted the domain within the hour or two of me messing around trying to restructure my account the way I wanted it.

What actual URL do you want? What actual username do you want?
If you deleted the URL, it’s gone forever. Pick a different name.

https://readby12.wordpress.com/ is deleted all righty. I suggest registering a whatever.wordpress.com URL and use the $18 a year Custom Domain and Mapping upgrades to get whatyouwant.com instead. In my experience, buying a custom domain is never the wrong decision.

I think that is what I will likely end up doing, thank you. I am still very confused by how this happened because I did not actually delete domain. I have the conformation email and it was for the right blog. When I look at my achievements I see a first post on https://readby12.wordpress.com from twelve months ago (long before I decided to change it today) but the ONLY blog I deleted today was https://thedrunkguy.wordpress.com. I really don’t know how this managed to happen and I would like to know.

Your’e the second person who’s reported something like this today. It’s worrying indeed if random blogs are getting deleted. I will flag this for staff to take a look.
