Hello,
I accidentally used an old email to set up my website. It is not longer in operation. I need to change the email address but can not access the one I used to sign up with.

There is a single email address that can be used on only one username account and not on any others.
You can change your email address on your accounts page at https://wordpress.com/me/account

I have attempted to do as instructed. Problem is I must have access to the original email account in order to update/change the email address to a new one. I do not have this access as the original email account has been deleted due to technical problems. Can I change the email address associated to my website without getting into the original email account? I have not technically ‘activated’ the website and keep getting this message every time I open the webpage:

Re-send your activation email or change the email address on your account.Thanks for your help!

Hi there,
You should be able to change your email address here even if the current one isn’t verified yet:
https://wordpress.com/me/accountOnce you update it, you will receive a confirmation email at the new address with a link you can click.
Let me know if it won’t let you change the address.

I do not have access to the email account so I cannot check the inbox.

I now see what you mean by the cancel link. I clicked that link and it brings me back to the original email that I used and do not have access to. (email visible only to moderators and staff)
I have tried this a couple of times now and the system will not let me change the email address.

What happens if you insert the correct email at https://wordpress.com/me/account and click Save? Does it give any error message?

When I insert the correct email at the link you posted and click save, I get this message.
“There is a pending change of your email to (email visible only to moderators and staff). Please check your inbox for a confirmation link.”
I have did this action several times prior to contacting the Forum with my inquiry but I did it again just now as you suggested.

Okay. When you insert that address on the Account Settings, it should send a confirmation email to that address.
Can you check the inbox for that address for the confirmation email? If it’s not in the inbox, also check the Updates and Social tabs, as well as the Spam folder.

I can’t change the email until I have got into the old email to confirm that I have the right to make this change. The only way I appear to have this change is to get into the original email account of which I have no access to.

Note: I have also checked in spam, inbox, socialbox, and refreshed the page for the new email account as you instructed. Nothing has been sent to the new email address.
