i dont get how to mape a website

  i already own a website, now i dont like the design anymore and we decided to go to wordpress. how do I use the same name , for example http://www.example.com, at wordpress again without paying for the old one further more ? And if that works out, what do i have to do to create the new one in private so no one can see it until i publish it ?

  Hi there. First, if you’d prefer to get support in German there is a German support forum available here: http://de.forums.wordpress.com/

  But to answer your question here: you need to set up a free WordPress.com blog and import any content you want to keep from your self-hosted site. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-from-wordpress-org

  You cannot transfer your domain to WP.com, so you’ll need to keep it with the current registrar, and then you need to map the domain you already own to your free WP.com blog. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

  Lastly, you can keep your blog private until such time as you are happy to make it public. Once you’ve created your WordPress.com blog, you can set it to private by going to Settings ->Reading in your dashboard. http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

  ah, ok i think i got it..

  so we cant keep our “website name” for example http://www.idontknowwhattodo.com, if we go to wordpress right ?

  we planned to buy the business account, because we have a business and want to keep it as professional as possible, but do we really need this ?

  You can keep your website URL, yes, but you’ll need to keep paying the current registrar for the domain while you pay WordPress.com for the domain mapping. For cancelling the hosting of your current site you should probably contact your registrar directly, but make sure you’ve exported all your content before you cancel that.

  I can’t really advise you about whether you need the business upgrade. It depends on how you intend to use the site and if you need the extra functionality that gives you.
